Recent NOTD: Borghese Purple Confetti

I am fortunate to work at a company that does not micromanage its employees' dress and grooming, so I don't hesitate to wear glitter polish even if it's not the weekend. (If I have a customer meeting scheduled, I do try to stick to more conservative shades.) For this mani, I chose Purple Confetti from the Borghese Scintillare collection.

This one surprised from the very first stroke. I hadn't realized from looking at it in the bottle how many colors of glitter it had in it. I also had no idea it would dry matte. Yes, matte. I expect that of neons, and things labeled "matte" and "suede", but a glitter in a dark base? I wouldn't hink so. Yet there it was, all matte. If I'd actually read the display instead of getting distracted by the pretty bottles, I wouldn't have been so surprised; it does say "edgy, matte and shiny glitter textures" right on it—though now I wonder if some colors do dry shiny, since "matte and shiny" doesn't make a lot of sense. (You can see the display in this entry.) Regardless, the matte and glitter is a rather interesting look; I might wear it out this way sometime.

I went ahead and put top coat on and that was good, too. I was delighted by how the colors in the glitter showed up against the deep base, and how different shades winked at me as I turned my nails this way and that in the light. This is a distracting polish, for sure. It immediately zoomed into my Top 20 for the year. It's one of those polishes that makes it so I don't mind having to stop at red lights during my commute because then I can enjoy looking at my nails some more. Unfortunately I so enjoyed it that I didn't get any photos of this sparkling in the sun, so these ones from the lightbox will have to do.

I used two coats of the Borghese over two layers of base coat (Sally Hansen Nail Quencher and Salon Sciences Instant Artificials) then applied one coat of Sally Hansen Insta Dri top coat. It stayed shiny and free of chips for the three days I wore it, until I got distracted by other pretty things and took it off. It was a tiny bit bumpy, though, so I think I'll use two layers of top coat the next time I wear it. I've read some complaints on the MUA nail board that the glitter is "dead" in these, but I'm completely happy, at least with Purple Confetti. I did find a sale and bought some of the other colors after I'd tried this one, so hope to swatch those soon.

  1. What an interesting polish. I would never expect a glitter polish to dry matte indeed but I think it looks lovely. It becomes really fabulous with the shiny top coat though <3

  3. I think they might be referring to the polish being matte and the glitter being shiny... ?

  10. Wow, a glitter that dries matte? I'm not sure I've seen that before. I've put matte top coat over glitters before but I've never seen a polish that does that on its own. It looks cool with topcoat and without.

  14. It looks way better with top coat- maybe not as edgy as matte version, but just nicer :)

Suzanne, you are probably right about that; makes a lot of sense now that you mention it.
