Chanel Riva vs. Barry M Blue Moon

When I put Riva in the comparison spotlight earlier this month, I teased that I had Barry M Blue Moon to try as well once my swap partner got her goodies from me. She did, so I was free to give it a go. Based on Barry M's success in copy Paradoxal, I had high hopes for Blue Moon. Based on the bottles, the two look really close.

Blue Moon (top), Riva (bottom).

On the nail, at three coats each, the only difference I could see was in the opacity.

Top to bottom: Riva, Blue Moon, Riva, Blue Moon.

Blue Moon (top), Riva (bottom).

When I went to four coats each, the difference was lessened, though still visible.

Top to bottom: Riva, Blue Moon, Riva, Blue Moon.

I'm not sure why I didn't think to do 3 coats of Blue Moon and 4 of Riva; that would have been closer still. For me, Blue Moon is a fine alternative to Riva, slightly better than Hard Candy Sky because the base color seems a bit of a better match. I wonder if Barry M is working on a Mimosa copy now.

  7. It annoys me so much that expensive brands use like, zero pigment. If I can get it for a fraction of the price, you better bet I will! Now, I wish I could get some Barry M! lol

  8. Wouldn't surprise me if Barry M are doing this on purpose...can't wait for the Mimosa dupe if they are!

  9. How did blue moon work out for you? on me it chips very fast and takes long time to dry. I love the colour but because of that I almost don't wear it.

  10. I love this shade, and as long as you use a good top coat, I find most Barry M don't chip.

Barry M's website ships to quite a few international countries too :P

  11. Do both have any shimmer? I thought I see a wee bit in the Chanel one. Both stunning and quite close!

  14. Thanks, ladies!

Beautyshades, I only swatched Blue Moon so I don't know about wear, but other Barry Ms do fine for me.

kittypolishnbags, they both have a secretive shimmer; it might be easier to see in big versions of the photos--most evident in the bottle shots.
