Recent NOTD: Essie Your Hut or Mine

I pulled out Essie's Your Hut or Mine to use as a full mani because Polish Me Up recently called it "the perfect pink" and seeing her entry reminded me that I've been meaning to try this one from the 2011 Resort collection.

Application was dandy; I used two coats of Your Hut in addition to my usual treatment, base, and top coat. The color, a coral-leaning pink, flatters my skintone, and I have the feeling it would complement a lot of different complexions. The shimmer in it is on the subtle side, but not so subtle as to disappear, even in indirect room light. All in all, a very nice polish.

After five days, I felt I wanted to juice up my look a bit, so added one coat of Revlon Grapefruit Fizz. It didn't really change the color of Your Hut but wow, those mini-flakies definitely added some visual interest, glowing in pink and lilac and orange. If I'd taken the time to touch up my tipwear the result would have been even more pleasing to my eye. The scent in the Fizz was certainly noticeable (Mr. Karen identified it as "fruit" when I held my fingers under his nose) but faded after about a day.

In case I've somehow given you all the impression that my nails are always camera-ready, here's my right hand on the last day I wore this mani. Somehow, I managed to splash some orange polish onto it when I was painting a nail wheel. Okay, that sort of thing happens, but now I must confess that I went out in public sporting those spots, not just to work, but to a meeting with some financial planners. I rationalized this by telling myself the orange was close to pink and most likely no one would notice. What do you think—fashion faux pas or no big deal?

  1. Wow, I'd have to agree - that is the perfect pink! And the flakies make it look even more beautiful. As for the spots, well, I would probably notice it less than I would chipped, old, faded polish. I don't necessarily feel that chipped polish is bad (I wear mine out past that point during busy/lazy weeks), but it is something I will notice.

  4. That is a pretty color with your skin tone. I've also wore some pretty strange nails to work. Usually my left looks 10x better than my right hand.

  6. Very pretty pink! :) I don't think anyone would notice (unless they're nail polish crazed too!) because it's so close in color and relatively small spots.

  11. Pretty combo! Don't worry about the spot. Sometimes my hands are painted totally different colors when I go out.

  15. This pink almost reminds me of the catrice polish I had, such a pretty pretty pink! And i loveee the name:) The grape fizz over it is super pretty and flaky~ I doubt anyone but you noticed the spots, the only thing I hate about them is that they ruin the polish lol

  18. I think the polish really compliments your skintone. While it is nice by itself, I do prefer the layered mani!

  20. Totally no biggie, just think of it as purposeful orange flair! That scented pink polish looks delicious, I've not seen it before but will keep my eyes peeled.
