Nicole by OPI Fall 2012 Target Exclusives

Back in mid-July, one of the things I'd found to include in a display post was an endcap at Target with Nicole by OPI colors, some of which didn't look familiar. Apparently four of them are Target exclusives for this fall, and I have those to share today, along with a fifth one that for some reason wasn't in that display. Left to right below: For Gold Times Sake, Just Busta Mauve, If the Blue Fits, Iris My Case, Mer-maid for Each Other. The first three are microflakie/microglitter shimmers, while the last two are classic-style duochrome shimmers.

You see that I'm back to my usual watermark. I'm happy to say that's because the blog that was stealing my posts is gone. She did take yesterday's post, ncluding the photos with the giant watermarks and the text about her stealing my stuff. I reported that stolen post to Google using their form. A few hours later, I got a response to the original report I'd filed when I'd first been alerted to the situation; that said Google had taken down the posts I'd reported (the blogger had already taken down two of them, perhaps because I left comments on them pointing out they weren't hers). A few hours after that, the whole blog was gone. I'm not sure if Google deleted it or the blogger did once she noticed "her" posts were disappearing, but in any case, I'm pleased. On to the polishes!

Let's start with Mer-maid for Each Other. It's a warm but not too warm green shimmer with a nice teal duochrome shift. I used three coats, no topcoat.

Here's its teal face:

And back to mostly green:

When I first saw it, I thought Mer-maid for Each Other was another Chanel Peridot dupe like OPI Just Spotted the Lizard, but it's not. Mer-maid is much less yellow/gold-toned. There's a good comparison of the two on Wacky Laki.

Iris My Case is the other classic duochrome in this set. It's a purple shimmer that shifts to wine/brown. Three coats, no topcoat for this one as well.

Now let's look at the microflakie/microglitter ones, which I found more interesting. The classic duochromes are nice, for sure, but I've seen stuff like them since back in the Sally Hansen Nail Prisms days. First up is If the Blue Fits, which is the one in the quintet that I haven't yet seen in a store (may be there now; I haven't been in Target for several weeks). This is a deep blue with shimmer in mostly brighter blue and lilac. I used two coats, no topcoat.

The shimmer particles have a subtle shift to them; at some angles the lilac goes green, for instance.

Just Busta Mauve has a dusty rose base with shimmer in blue and pink and gold. I was quite taken with this one. It's stuff like this that makes me glad I gave up my "no saggy NOPI bottles in my stash" rule. This is three coats, no topcoat.

I didn't notice very much color shifting in this one, but it's so interesting regardless that I didn't mind.

Finally we come to For Gold Times Sake. This has a dirty gold base with shimmer in bright olive, blue, purple, pink, and a few other things. It also has a pretty strong blue to rose shift in the shimmer, which is what gave it the edge over Just Busta Mauve to become my favorite of the group. Like Just Busta Mauve, it's three coats, no topcoat.

The sun was not shining the day I swatched these, but I was curious enough about how they'd look that when the sun did show up, I put these polishes on a nail wheel and headed outside. Can you say sparkly? I think you can.

If your mind works like mine, you are thinking that For Gold Times Sake bears some resemblance to my latest nail polish crush, Estée Lauder Explosif. I am planning on doing a full comparison soon, but in the meantime did a preview on a wheel. Nicole by OPI on the left, Estée Lauder on the right.

Next to the NOPI, Explosif looks much more gold and much less green than it does when it's all by itself. The NOPI is a bit darker, and—I hate to say this because it makes me seem fickle—I think it might be a bit prettier, too. We shall see (next week, I hope).

The Nicole by OPI polishes shown in this entry were provided free for review purposes. The content of the entry was not dictated by the provider.

    1. Hey Linda, e-mail me (the.karend @ gmail.com) for Target details (I don't think anyone reading my nail blog wants to stalk me while I'm shopping, but better to be safe).

  5. I picked up Just Busta Mauve and For Gold Time's Sake. I love them so much that I'll probably pick up the other three. Despite hating the saggy bottles, I am so impressed with this collection from NOPI.

I'm so glad that fraud finally got what was coming! I kept leaving comments saying to delete the blog, stop stealing, etc and most were deleted.

Thank you for reading and commenting! I greatly appreciate knowing I'm not just talking to myself here. :) I'm moderating most comments now due to the spate of spammers who claim to be looking for sexy times.
