Sally Hansen Target Exclusive Designer Collection

In last Friday's display post, I shared the endcap that had seven Sally Hansen Complete Salon Manicure shades that were labeled as a "Target Exclusive Designer Collection". How long these are going to be only at Target, I've no idea. Just in case it was forever, I scooped them all up, then spent a silly amount of time getting them to balance in a cheerleader-esque pyramid formation for a group photo. Bottom row, left to right: Ivory Skull, Ion, Pumice, and Bandage. Top row: Blue Rose, Gilded Lily, Onyx.

I just couldn't muster the attention span to do full hand swatches of the light cremes, but I did do skittles. Left to right, Ivory Skull (white), Ion (light warm grey), Pumice (light greenish grey), and Bandage (light camel). What you see is three coats of each. They were pleasantly non-streaky for being such light colors; with a decent basecoat, I think these would only need two coats. If these were not limited edition, I'd be thinking that Ivory Skull could be my new "go to" white, replacing the now-discontinued Sally Hansen Insta Dri Whirlwind White.

Blue Rose was the color in this group that really caught my eye (probably because it is the only non-neutral, non-metallic one in the bunch). It's a deep blue creme. I used two coats for these swatches, but likely could have stopped at one if I'd used the aforementioned decent basecoat to smooth the way for color.

Of course I had to compare Blue Rose to my all time favorite blue creme, Orly La Playa. China Glaze First Mate joined the fun, too.

On the nail, left to right below: First Mate, Blue Rose, La Playa. All two coats plus topcoat. Blue Rose is a touch dustier than the other two. It's about the same value as First Mate; the two of them are a tad lighter than La Playa.

Gilded Lily seems to be getting the most attention of all of these in the blog world, and it is certainly the bling-iest. It's a yellow gold shimmer, packed with particles of the mini-flakie variety. I swatched it three coats on its own with an accent nail of Onyx topped with one coat of Gilded Lily. (I didn't think you all needed to see swatches of Onyx on its own; it's a black creme.)

Here's what Gilded Lily looks like gilding the light cremes; left to right, one coat of Gilded Lily over Ivory Skull, Ion, Pumice, and Bandage.

The gold really brought out the green in Pumice; this was my favorite combination of the four.

If you like gold, I'd say Gilded Lily is well worth picking up. I'd love to see a silver version of Gilded Lily; that would be much more flattering to my skintone. My two favorites of the cremes are Blue Rose and Pumice, though any are fine choices if your stash lacks similar colors. None are must haves, I don't think.

  9. I suppose Gilded Lily is a great answer to the real gold flakes nail polish trend that's been cropping up. I personally think it's a waste to put real gold into nail polish when you can have something like Gilded Lily.

  14. Love the skittles with Gilded Lily...I've seen these at Target but didn't know they were Target exclusives...but I could probably pass on the light cremes.
