Sinful Colors Crystal Crushes

Poor Nail Wheel Wednesday, pushed out of its rightful place so soon after its return from hiatus. But Texture Week takes priority, and today I have some Skittles swatches of Sinful Colors' entry into the texture arena, the eight-shade Crystal Crushes collection. This hit stores for Holiday 2013; my drugstore rounds in the last couple weeks tell me that a few Rite Aid and Walgreens stores still have some stock left, even if the display is no longer up—earlier today I saw a bottle sitting all alone between other brands' displays at a Rite Aid.

Instead of my usual bottle shot, I'm going to recycle my display photo, as it shows all eight colors: Blue Persuasion (dark blue), Got a Blush on You (deep berry red), Emerald Envy (medium green), Treasure Chest (blue green), Ruby Mine (orange red), Face the Facets (yellow), Purple Gleam (medium purple), and Orange Crush (orange).

My Skittles only have seven colors, as when it came time to swatch this collection, Orange Crush was nowhere to be found. I still haven't found it, actually. The really odd thing is it's not listed on my spreadsheet, either, which either means I didn't buy it—which I can't imagine since that's not at all like me—or I did buy it and lost it before I updated my spreadsheet. I suppose I could I have just overlooked it when updating my spreadsheet, and it's sitting in a box somewhere in my house (or wedged somewhere in my car—I've had that happen a couple times before, like the glitter polish that emerged from a corner of my trunk one time). Perhaps now that I'm posting these swatches, it will come out of hiding.

The missing orange meant my warm Skittles swatches had one repeat. Top to bottom: Ruby Mine, Face the Facets, Got a Blush on You, and Ruby Mine.

Here they are with topcoat. I liked Got a Blush on You much more shiny than textured because the pink, blue, and purple sparkles showed more. Topcoat doesn't do much for Ruby Mine, so I prefer that one without. I like Face the Facets both ways; for whatever reason this shade of yellow seems to agree with me.

Here's a closer look at Face the Facets and Got a Blush on You all shiny:

Since I hadn't misplaced any of the cool tones, I had a full hand of four shades of those. Top to bottom: Treasure Chest, Purple Gleam, Emerald Envy, and Blue Persuasion.

Here they are with topcoat, in a couple different lighting situations:

Blue Persuasion is the most transformed by topcoat; the variations from the texture disappear and it turns into a dark sky with a scattering of purple sparkling stars.

At $2.99, these are the most affordable textures in my collection. All were two coaters, so they're a good consistency. They're not as fine-grained as the Zoya PixieDust and the formula isn't consistent across the colors—some are more glittery, some seem to have more "sand" in them. I think they're a great option to get the textured look. My favorite are Got a Blush on You (but only shiny), Purple Gleam (of course), Treasure Chest (don't have another texture this color), and Face the Facets (surprised me, too).

  2. Pretty polishes. I don't think they made it down here yet. I have yet to find them in the wild.

  3. I've been looking for these since I first heard about them in October, but they never showed up around where I am. :( Hopefully they're just super late or something, because I love Treasure Chest and Emerald Envy!

    1. Danielle, these were topped with OPI Top Coat (I have a few bottles to use up from those specials when Ulta gives it away free with purchase of OPI colors).

  10. Funny... I bought Treasure Chest on a clearance sale at Rite Aid and didn't realize it was a textured polish until I put it on. It is so damn pretty I can't stand it! I only wish I had some of the others.
