I don't really know where November went. I kept meaning to post here but didn't. I'm determined to not let the month end without something going up in this space, and as often happens I've got a bunch of display photos that have piled up in my folders, so I'm going to get through those even though some are for Halloween which is old news by now (not surprising since my previous <a href="https://thekarend.blogspot.com/2023/09/summer-vacation-displays.html">display post</a> was two months ago. That's okay. I've been feeling for a while that this blog is more a historical record than anything.<br /> <br />
After I get this up, I'm going to take a break. My nails are in awful shape (maybe from being sick last month or from winter or I don't know) so I haven't swatched anything in ages much less done a manicure with polish. I even went to see family for the Thanksgiving holiday and didn't bother putting on fake nails or anything, just a treatment coat that wore off over the course of the week. I'm not the only one of my nail polish generation that's feeling this way; I've recently seen several destashes on Facebook from ladies I was close to on forums and such back in the day. So a break seems in order. Right now I'm thinking I'll be back in January after all the holiday hubbub, but who knows, I may decide to adorn my stubbies and swatch a holiday collection or something.<br /> <br />
Meijer, which I was able to visit on my long weekend in Michigan in September, had Dashing Diva Halloween-themed nail strips and stickers.
<div> <br /></div>
<a href="//www.aniploish.com/images/2023/11/d30_32.jpg"><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 600px; height: px;" src="//www.aniploish.com/images/2023/11/d30_32_sized.jpg" border="0" alt="" id="" /></a>
<br />
At Sally Beauty quite recently, I saw a Dashing Diva Malibu Pool Party display with fake nails for both fingers and toes. Not sure if was intended to capitalize on the Barbie movie energy without paying for an official Barbie tie-in or what. Seemed very summer-y regardless.
<div> <br /></div>
<a href="//www.aniploish.com/images/2023/11/d30_31.jpg"><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 600px; height: px;" src="//www.aniploish.com/images/2023/11/d30_31_sized.jpg" border="0" alt="" id="" /></a>
<br />
Fred Meyer had a Disney 100 display with nail strips/sticker sets on top, fake nails in the middle, and glittery polish sets at the bottom. These are aimed at kids judging by the size of the nails/strips and the fact that the polish is water-based. I went ahead and got the strips/stickers set anyway, figuring I can use the latter on other polish/strips.
<div> <br /></div>
<a href="//www.aniploish.com/images/2023/11/d30_26.jpg"><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 600px; height: px;" src="//www.aniploish.com/images/2023/11/d30_26_sized.jpg" border="0" alt="" id="" /></a>
<br />
I saw some Essence polish at Meijer, what looked to be core colors of their gel line in a bottle I hadn't seen before, with the shade names printed front and center.
<div> <br /></div>
<a href="//www.aniploish.com/images/2023/11/d30_40.jpg"><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 600px; height: px;" src="//www.aniploish.com/images/2023/11/d30_40_sized.jpg" border="0" alt="" id="" /></a>
Essie's fall 2023 offering is the Step Out of Line collection, which I saw at Ulta. Front/bottom section: Step Out of Line (two slots), Meet Me at Midnight (two slots), Full Blast (two slots), Dance 'til Dawn. Back/top section: Underground Ball (two slots), Lights Down Music Up (two slots, sold out).
<div> <br /></div>
<a href="//www.aniploish.com/images/2023/11/d30_02.jpg"><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 600px; height: px;" src="//www.aniploish.com/images/2023/11/d30_02_sized.jpg" border="0" alt="" id="" /></a>
<br />
I shared the plant based Essie Love polishes I saw on my England vacation in my last display post. The first (and so far only) time I've seen them at home is at a Fred Meyer, where they hadn't finished putting up the shade labels or price tags yet.
<div> <br /></div>
<a href="//www.aniploish.com/images/2023/11/d30_27.jpg"><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 600px; height: px;" src="//www.aniploish.com/images/2023/11/d30_27_sized.jpg" border="0" alt="" id="" /></a>
<br />
I don't remember seeing the Essie Expressive Word on the Street collection before, though the internet tells me it's been around since at least March of this year, so here is it tucked into the core display wall at a CVS in Michigan. Left to right: Send a Message, World as a Canvas, Word on the Street, Spray It to Say It, Outside the Lines, and Unapologetic Icon.
<div> <br /></div>
<a href="//www.aniploish.com/images/2023/11/d30_39.jpg"><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 600px; height: px;" src="//www.aniploish.com/images/2023/11/d30_39_sized.jpg" border="0" alt="" id="" /></a>
Back in the day, Meijer had so much Halloween polish from brands that only showed up then. This past September, there were no pumpkin bottles at all, just this sad Fright Night display (and yes, someone had stolen the cap from one of the bottles).
<div> <br /></div>
<a href="//www.aniploish.com/images/2023/11/d30_38.jpg"><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 600px; height: px;" src="//www.aniploish.com/images/2023/11/d30_38_sized.jpg" border="0" alt="" id="" /></a>
Walmart had a Halloween Esssentials display of fake nails for $2.98 a set before that holiday. In my store (the only place in my little town to get nail stuff), they put them in the beauty section rather than with Halloween stuff. There were six designs: Spookin Spiral (grey, black, and white nails with spiders, spiderwebs, and marble motifs), Spiderella (white nails with black spiders and spiderwebs), Full Moon (black nails with white phases of the moon), Evil Twin (purple/black gradient), Spiders & Sass (black and orange nails with spiderwebs and spiders), and Dark Trails (black and lilac/grey gradient nails with spiderwebs and night sky motifs).
<div> <br /></div>
<a href="//www.aniploish.com/images/2023/11/d30_01.jpg"><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 600px; height: px;" src="//www.aniploish.com/images/2023/11/d30_01_sized.jpg" border="0" alt="" id="" /></a>
<br />
Meijer also had a Halloween Essentials fake nails display, but the assortment was slightly different. In addition to the sets in the Walmart one above, this had So I Creep Yeaaa (Pennywise the clown imagery) and Coffin Crawlers (red and white blood spatter). There is also a set misplaced here from another brand (see below).
<div> <br /></div>
<a href="//www.aniploish.com/images/2023/11/d30_46.jpg"><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 600px; height: px;" src="//www.aniploish.com/images/2023/11/d30_46_sized.jpg" border="0" alt="" id="" /></a> <br />
In addition to the Halloween Essentials, Meijer had a smaller display just called Halloween Nails. There was one empty space and one filled with a Halloween Essentials design. The designs that were here (starting top left): Glow and Go (mint, lilac, and black with various creepy imagery), Spooky Vibes (black, white, and mint with stripes, spider webs, and spooky faces), 100% That Witch (orange, black and white with spiders, jack o lanterns, etc.), Fortune Forever (pink, black, and grey with fortune teller theme), Glowy Batty (black and white with bats and moons), FaBOOlous (black, white, lime green with ghosts and blood drips and scars), and Bling & Bones (pearl and black with occult-y imagery).
<div> <br /></div>
<a href="//www.aniploish.com/images/2023/11/d30_47.jpg"><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 600px; height: px;" src="//www.aniploish.com/images/2023/11/d30_47_sized.jpg" border="0" alt="" id="" /></a> <br />
Kiss Halloween nails were lots of places; I first saw them this year at Ulta.
<div> <br /></div>
<a href="//www.aniploish.com/images/2023/11/d30_12.jpg"><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 600px; height: px;" src="//www.aniploish.com/images/2023/11/d30_12_sized.jpg" border="0" alt="" id="" /></a>
<br />
Meijer had two displays of the Kiss nails; there was some overlap in the designs.
<div> <br /></div>
<a href="//www.aniploish.com/images/2023/11/d30_13.jpg"><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 600px; height: px;" src="//www.aniploish.com/images/2023/11/d30_13_sized.jpg" border="0" alt="" id="" /></a>
<br />
<div> <br /></div>
<a href="//www.aniploish.com/images/2023/11/d30_14.jpg"><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 600px; height: px;" src="//www.aniploish.com/images/2023/11/d30_14_sized.jpg" border="0" alt="" id="" /></a>
<br />
CVS had a floor display that had the Kiss Halloween nails plus lashes.
<div> <br /></div>
<a href="//www.aniploish.com/images/2023/11/d30_15.jpg"><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 600px; height: px;" src="//www.aniploish.com/images/2023/11/d30_15_sized.jpg" border="0" alt="" id="" /></a>
<br />
The Kiss nails also appeared in one of those pallet-sized displays that Walmart puts in the aisles sometimes. This also had some LA Colors Lavish Nails sets with the Kiss sets on one side of the boxy display.
<div> <br /></div>
<a href="//www.aniploish.com/images/2023/11/d30_16.jpg"><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 600px; height: px;" src="//www.aniploish.com/images/2023/11/d30_16_sized.jpg" border="0" alt="" id="" /></a>
<br />
<div> <br /></div>
<a href="//www.aniploish.com/images/2023/11/d30_17.jpg"><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 600px; height: px;" src="//www.aniploish.com/images/2023/11/d30_17_sized.jpg" border="0" alt="" id="" /></a>
<br />
These LA Colors Nail Frill press on sets were on another side of the pallet display at Walmart that had the Kiss nails.
<div> <br /></div>
<a href="//www.aniploish.com/images/2023/11/d30_29.jpg"><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 600px; height: px;" src="//www.aniploish.com/images/2023/11/d30_29_sized.jpg" border="0" alt="" id="" /></a>
<br />
In mid-October, I happened upon this very picked over LA Colors Bewitched polish display in the soft goods section of Walmart ... hadn't thought to look there for polish earlier in the month. Thank goodness for labels on the display itself, so I could tell that the top two rows had held six shades of glow in the dark polish: Boneyard (white), Hayride (yellow), Screech (blue), Curse (pink), Be Weird (green), and Candycorn (orange). The bottom two rows looked to be core Gel and Diamond Crush colors: Frosting (white), Graphic (purple), Anarchy (black), Vampy (wine), Dream Maker (gold), Fierce (red), Fireball (wine), Wink (pink), Aurora Sky (blue), Shooting Star (silver), Constellation (chacoal), Flashing Lights (blue).
<div> <br /></div>
<a href="//www.aniploish.com/images/2023/11/d30_30.jpg"><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 600px; height: px;" src="//www.aniploish.com/images/2023/11/d30_30_sized.jpg" border="0" alt="" id="" /></a>
<br />
Sally Beauty had Morgan Taylor's On My Wish List collection, with regular polish in the front row and Gelish in the back. Left to right: Dew Me a Favor, empty slot for Bad to the Bow (moss green), A Hundred Present Yes, Gift It Your Best, Before My Berry Eyes, and Reddy to Jingle.
<div> <br /></div>
<a href="//www.aniploish.com/images/2023/11/d30_28.jpg"><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 600px; height: px;" src="//www.aniploish.com/images/2023/11/d30_28_sized.jpg" border="0" alt="" id="" /></a>
<br />
The most surprising thing I saw in this season of display hunting was a Nails Inc. and Froot Loops cereal collaboration which was sitting there seemingly untouched at Rite Aid a couple weeks ago. Hadn't heard a thing about this, though poking around the internet tells me it was released this past summer, and the polishes are scented. Single shades in front: #FOLLOWYOURNOSE, Toucan Sam Approved, Feeling Fruity, Toucan Play at That Game, and Ce-real Talk. The duo has neon shades: Face the Froot (pink) and Live Life Loopy (yellow).
<div> <br /></div>
<a href="//www.aniploish.com/images/2023/11/d30_34.jpg"><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 600px; height: px;" src="//www.aniploish.com/images/2023/11/d30_34_sized.jpg" border="0" alt="" id="" /></a>
<br />
Not all Ulta stores got the Nailtopia Disney 100 collection, which I'd first seen <a href="https://thekarend.blogspot.com/2023/04/great-lakes-and-other-displays.html">back in April</a> in Illinois. An Ulta I went to in Michigan in September had a fairly well stocked section for them still. Starting with the 5ml minis at the top left: Winnie the Pooh, Piglet, Piglet again (in the slot for Elsa, which is a darker pink or maybe purple—hard to tell from the little printed swatch), Olaf, Anna, Alice in Wonderland, Cheshire, Simba, Dumbo, and Stitch. Next to those are the 12ml classic cartoon characters: Mickey Mouse, Minnie Mouse, Donald Duck, Daisy Duck, Pluto, Goofy, Peter Pan (sold out), Tinker Bell. Bottom row has villians on the left: Maleficant, Captain Hook, Scar, Hades, Evil Queen, Ursula, Cruella, and Jafar. Bottom right are the princesses: Cinderella, Belle, Moana, Jasmine, Rapunzel, Tiana, Ariel, and Snow White.
<div> <br /></div>
<a href="//www.aniploish.com/images/2023/11/d30_18.jpg"><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 600px; height: px;" src="//www.aniploish.com/images/2023/11/d30_18_sized.jpg" border="0" alt="" id="" /></a>
<br />
At Ulta, I saw the summer 2023 OPI collection, Summer Make the Rules. It was picked over by the time I came across it, and had a couple colors from the Barbie collection shoved in there.
<div> <br /></div>
<a href="//www.aniploish.com/images/2023/11/d30_03.jpg"><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 600px; height: px;" src="//www.aniploish.com/images/2023/11/d30_03_sized.jpg" border="0" alt="" id="" /></a>
<br />
I never did see a display for the OPI Barbie movie tie-in collection at any of the Ultas I popped into during my travels. My local(ish) Ulta had a few polish colors and some fake nail sets on the "looks like clearance but everything's still full price" shelf.
<div> <br /></div>
<a href="//www.aniploish.com/images/2023/11/d30_04.jpg"><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 600px; height: px;" src="//www.aniploish.com/images/2023/11/d30_04_sized.jpg" border="0" alt="" id="" /></a>
<br />
The three polish colors left were Bon Voyage to Reality, My Job is Beach, and Hi Ken. Some poking around the internet shows me that the six shades not here were shimmers and/or pink.
<div> <br /></div>
<a href="//www.aniploish.com/images/2023/11/d30_05.jpg"><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 600px; height: px;" src="//www.aniploish.com/images/2023/11/d30_05_sized.jpg" border="0" alt="" id="" /></a>
<br />
Just when I'd given up on seeing an OPI Barbie display, I ran across one at a Rite Aid. It was missing some of the shades, too, which was not surprising as I saw it in mid-November, well after the movie came out. I was surprised so many of the pinks were still there since those usually sell quickly.
<div> <br /></div>
<a href="//www.aniploish.com/images/2023/11/d30_11.jpg"><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 600px; height: px;" src="//www.aniploish.com/images/2023/11/d30_11_sized.jpg" border="0" alt="" id="" /></a>
<br />
Back when I posted about the OPI xPress/On nails I wore on one of my trips earlier this year, <a href="https://thekarend.blogspot.com/2023/10/opi-xpresson-nails.html">100% That Scorpio</a>, I promised to share the other signs in a future display post. This is that post. When I came across the shelf where these were stocked in the Ulta I first saw them at, some of the signs were missing. Fortunately, I found them mixed in with other designs on an endcap nearby, so I rearranged things so all the zodiac ones were together.
<div> <br /></div>
<a href="//www.aniploish.com/images/2023/11/d30_06.jpg"><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 600px; height: px;" src="//www.aniploish.com/images/2023/11/d30_06_sized.jpg" border="0" alt="" id="" /></a>
<br />
Kiss My Aries, Free as a Sagittarius, and Leo AF:
<div> <br /></div>
<a href="//www.aniploish.com/images/2023/11/d30_07.jpg"><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 600px; height: px;" src="//www.aniploish.com/images/2023/11/d30_07_sized.jpg" border="0" alt="" id="" /></a>
<br />
Gemini'm a Flirt, OG Aquarius, and Libra on Chic:
<div> <br /></div>
<a href="//www.aniploish.com/images/2023/11/d30_08.jpg"><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 600px; height: px;" src="//www.aniploish.com/images/2023/11/d30_08_sized.jpg" border="0" alt="" id="" /></a>
<br />
100% That Scorpio, Pisces the Future, and Can-certified Sweet:
<div> <br /></div>
<a href="//www.aniploish.com/images/2023/11/d30_09.jpg"><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 600px; height: px;" src="//www.aniploish.com/images/2023/11/d30_09_sized.jpg" border="0" alt="" id="" /></a>
<br />
Practical Virgo Magic, Taurus-t Me, and Feelin' Capricorn-y:
<div> <br /></div>
<a href="//www.aniploish.com/images/2023/11/d30_10.jpg"><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 600px; height: px;" src="//www.aniploish.com/images/2023/11/d30_10_sized.jpg" border="0" alt="" id="" /></a>
<br />
OPI also has horoscope polish, some which share names with the xPress/On nail designs; I saw Big Zodiac Energy at Ulta.
<div> <br /></div>
<a href="//www.aniploish.com/images/2023/11/d30_24.jpg"><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 600px; height: px;" src="//www.aniploish.com/images/2023/11/d30_24_sized.jpg" border="0" alt="" id="" /></a>
<br />
Top row: #Virgoals, Taurus-t me, Feelin' Capricorn-y, Pisces the Future, Scorpio Seduction, Aquarius Renegade, and Feelin' Libra-ted. Bottom row: Gemini and I, I Cancer-tainly Shine, The Leo-nly One, Kiss My Aires (two slots), and Big Sagittarius Energy (two slots).
<div> <br /></div>
<a href="//www.aniploish.com/images/2023/11/d30_25.jpg"><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 600px; height: px;" src="//www.aniploish.com/images/2023/11/d30_25_sized.jpg" border="0" alt="" id="" /></a>
<br />
I saw OPI Terribly Nice, the holiday collection, at Sally Beauty, with some colors already missing.
<div> <br /></div>
<a href="//www.aniploish.com/images/2023/11/d30_33.jpg"><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 600px; height: px;" src="//www.aniploish.com/images/2023/11/d30_33_sized.jpg" border="0" alt="" id="" /></a>
<br />
There was a Cover Girl and Sally Hansen display at Meijer called Spooky Season Looks. The Cover Girl side was all face makeup (remember when they had polish?). The Sally Hansen side touted Eerie-sistible shades and was all core colors, including all the Miracle Gel toppers plus some mostly dark and mysterious Miracle Gel shades and a lot of Hard as Nails Xtreme Wear colors.
<div> <br /></div>
<a href="//www.aniploish.com/images/2023/11/d30_41.jpg"><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 600px; height: px;" src="//www.aniploish.com/images/2023/11/d30_41_sized.jpg" border="0" alt="" id="" /></a>
I didn't document the exact shades in the Eerie-sistable display, but I did get a closeup of the Miracle Gel Toppers in the core section at Meijer, since I'd not seen Glazed in person before. Left to right: Crystal, Moonlit, Sugar, Unicorn, and Glazed.
<div> <br /></div>
<a href="//www.aniploish.com/images/2023/11/d30_42.jpg"><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 600px; height: px;" src="//www.aniploish.com/images/2023/11/d30_42_sized.jpg" border="0" alt="" id="" /></a>
While the Eerie-sistle display didn't have them, Sally Hansen did release new Insta Dri colors ahead of Halloween. I saw the best stocked display at Meijer, with the Trolls collection on top and the Halloween glow in the dark colors below, along with some core colors in the bottom rows. (I later saw the Troll shades at Ulta tucked into the core section, and a smaller display at a Meijer that had all the Trolls and glow in the dark but fewer core shades.)
<div> <br /></div>
<a href="//www.aniploish.com/images/2023/11/d30_43.jpg"><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 600px; height: px;" src="//www.aniploish.com/images/2023/11/d30_43_sized.jpg" border="0" alt="" id="" /></a><br />
There are eight shades in the Trolls limited edition collection. Top row: Popalicious (two slots), Viva Power, Here We Go Again (two slots), Vacay Island (two slots), Black to Blakc (core color). Bottom row: Hole 'n Fun (two slots), Sisterhood (two slots), Bandtastic (two slots), Mount Rageous, Black to Black (core).

There are seven glow in the dark colors. Some of these look like re-releases to me but I haven't done the research. I am proud that I didn't buy any of these, reminding myself I haven't worn the ones I have from previous years in ages and ages. Top row: Trolls duo pack of Popalicious and Viva Power, Be-Witcha Soon, Eerie-sistible, Where My Ghouls At (two slots), Black to Black (core). Bottom row: Bat to the Bone (two slots), Ahead of the Carve (two slots), A Scare is Born (two slots), Fa-boo-lous, The Queen's Velvet (core).
<div> <br /></div>
<a href="//www.aniploish.com/images/2023/11/d30_45.jpg"><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 600px; height: px;" src="//www.aniploish.com/images/2023/11/d30_45_sized.jpg" border="0" alt="" id="" /></a> <br />
I first saw the Sally Hansen Miracle Gel limited edition Gingerbread Kisses collection at Ulta, tucked in a section next to all the core colors. It was already sold out of (or more likely not yet stocked with; this was September) a few of the colors. Left to right: empty slot for Oh My Pearl, empty slot for Baking Spirits Bright, Jack Frosted, Whisk You a Merry Xmas, empty slot for Peppermint to Be, For Goodness Bake, Less Bitter More Glitter, and Dreams Crumb True.
<div> <br /></div>
<a href="//www.aniploish.com/images/2023/11/d30_19.jpg"><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 600px; height: px;" src="//www.aniploish.com/images/2023/11/d30_19_sized.jpg" border="0" alt="" id="" /></a>
<br />
At a different Ulta earlier this month, I saw the Gingerbread Kisses even more sold out, but they did have a Holiday Glaze gift pack shelved nearby which contained Peppermint to Be, Whisk You a Merry Christmas, and the Shiny Top Coat, marked "only here" on the packaging.
<div> <br /></div>
<a href="//www.aniploish.com/images/2023/11/d30_20.jpg"><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 600px; height: px;" src="//www.aniploish.com/images/2023/11/d30_20_sized.jpg" border="0" alt="" id="" /></a>
<br />
Walgreens had a free standing floor display that had the Gingerbread Kisses colors in it, but they weren't called that; it said "Oh What Fun!" at the top and included some core shades and fake nails as well as the limited edition holiday ones. They had a similar looking set to the Ulta one, but this had Baking Spirits Bright and the Shiny Top Coat.
<div> <br /></div>
<a href="//www.aniploish.com/images/2023/11/d30_21.jpg"><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 600px; height: px;" src="//www.aniploish.com/images/2023/11/d30_21_sized.jpg" border="0" alt="" id="" /></a>
<br />
The two gift sets of Insta Dri that were perched atop the Oh What Fun display at Walgreens were core colors. Candy Cane Wishes had ASAP Apple and White on Time. Orna-ment to Be had Powerslide and Clearly Quick.
<div> <br /></div>
<a href="//www.aniploish.com/images/2023/11/d30_22.jpg"><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 600px; height: px;" src="//www.aniploish.com/images/2023/11/d30_22_sized.jpg" border="0" alt="" id="" /></a>
<br />
Ulta also had an Insta Dri holiday set, again with core colors. It's called That's a Wrap and contains White on Time, C-hill Out, Powerslide, ASAP Apple, and Back to Black. I saw a picture on the internet of a four-pack set at Target called Ski-son, which had Powerslide, C-hill Out, Glos-sea, and Cinna Snap, but I haven't seen that one in person and likely won't as I try to avoid stores as much as possible during December.

<br />
I still miss the years when Wet 'n' Wild would give us Halloween polish collections. This year, their display at Walmart had one set of Fantasy Makers fake nails and no polish at all, just face makeup.
<div> <br /></div>
<a href="//www.aniploish.com/images/2023/11/d30_35.jpg"><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 600px; height: px;" src="//www.aniploish.com/images/2023/11/d30_35_sized.jpg" border="0" alt="" id="" /></a>
<br />
I was slightly mollified when I went back to that Walmart a week or so later and found a Scooby-Doo x Wet 'n' Wild pallet display that had a three pack of polish. Sure, two of them were cremes, but still the designs on the bottles were cute.

This might be a new personal best for number of photos in one blog post. I'd like to thank procrastination.

Today it's indie glitters from Polish Addict and Elevation. My spreadsheet tells me I only have seven shades from Polish Addict ... I feel like I picked these up from blog sales maybe or perhaps swaps when I was into that? Six of them are on this wheel; the seventh is apparently a holo which I must have put in another place to be swatched with other holos someday. Doing some poking around the internet, I think my bottles are from around 2013-ish going by the label style. By 2016, there was a different label the brand was using. The brand seems to have disappeared, with both its Facebook group and its fan group being dead links now. As for Elevation, I bought a fair few of those well before it came to light that the owner had basically stolen someone else's photos to make it look like she was someone she was not, among other hinky stuff. Are the polishes still pretty? Yes. Do I look askance at them now because I thought I was buying from another woman who loves the mountains and it turned out she was not that person at all? Also yes.

I chose 100% That Scorpio from their zodiac collection (I'll share other signs from that in a future display post). I'm not a Scorpio, but I really liked the purple/green/blue multichrome effect. This set's shape is Classic, which I'd call oval.
<div> <br /></div>
<a href="//www.aniploish.com/images/2023/10/opeo_01.jpg"><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 600px; height: px;" src="//www.aniploish.com/images/2023/10/opeo_01_sized.jpg" border="0" alt="" id="" /></a>
<br />
After I opened the package, I struggled to find sizes that fit my nails. The assortment was very much skewed toward the smaller end. Other brands I've used have had a more even distribution, and my hands are not small, so I wasn't sure I'd be able to make this work.
<div> <br /></div>
<a href="//www.aniploish.com/images/2023/10/opeo_02.jpg"><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 600px; height: px;" src="//www.aniploish.com/images/2023/10/opeo_02_sized.jpg" border="0" alt="" id="" /></a>
<br />
I did the best I could with the sizes, but it wasn't great, especially the over large nail I had to put on my middle finger. As with the Ardell nails I shared in my last post, these came with glue but I used adhesive tabs.
<div> <br /></div>
<a href="//www.aniploish.com/images/2023/10/opeo_03.jpg"><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 600px; height: px;" src="//www.aniploish.com/images/2023/10/opeo_03_sized.jpg" border="0" alt="" id="" /></a>
<br />
The shift in these was strong and fun to look at.
<div> <br /></div>
<a href="//www.aniploish.com/images/2023/10/opeo_04.jpg"><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 600px; height: px;" src="//www.aniploish.com/images/2023/10/opeo_04_sized.jpg" border="0" alt="" id="" /></a>
<br />
The shape of these at the tips did expose some of my natural nails, which wasn't ideal, but the shiftiness of the fakes was distracting enough that I could ignore that after a while.
<div> <br /></div>
<a href="//www.aniploish.com/images/2023/10/opeo_05.jpg"><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 600px; height: px;" src="//www.aniploish.com/images/2023/10/opeo_05_sized.jpg" border="0" alt="" id="" /></a>
<br />
These nails did not like the adhesive tabs. I had the first nail pop off only a couple hours in, leaving the adhesive tab on my natural nail. Fortunately I found the nail, which is important as it was one of the larger ones and I didn't have a replacement for it. A few more instances of that, and I started using glue between the adhesive tab and the fake nail. That helped them stay on longer, though I still lost several even with the glue. That issue and the sizing make me less excited about trying other sets of these, though they have a lot of attractive ones and other shapes so I'll probably give them another chance or two.

I spent the first week after I got home thinking I was just tired from travel. Then I woke up with a swollen, red, goopy eye and decided I needed to get that checked out. I also had some bug bites that were not healing well, so I had the doctor look a those too. She gave me some antibiotics for the infection she diagnosed, and I took those for almost another week, feeling worse and worse rather than better. I went back to the doctor's this past Friday and saw a different professional and got some different drugs and have slowly been feeling better. Still don't know exactly what I've got, as the first sample they took wasn't usable when it got to the lab. Hoping to hear on the second sample when I go back on Wednesday.
I have enough energy now to do more than huddle on the couch under a blanket, so today I've got one of the sets of fake nails I wore on my recent trip, the Ardell Nail Addict Sun Kissed in Color Cadet.
<div> <br /></div>
<a href="//www.aniploish.com/images/2023/10/ana_01.jpg"><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 600px; height: px;" src="//www.aniploish.com/images/2023/10/ana_01_sized.jpg" border="0" alt="" id="" /></a>
<br />
These came with nail glue only, but I used adhesive tabs instead since I continue to think they're less damaging to my nails. The fit and base shape of these worked pretty well with my own nails, though they were a tiny bit too square at the base. The pinky peach color indoors went nicely with my skintone, if maybe being a bit unexciting. The nail material was a bit on the sheer side, which meant some air bubbles between the adhesive tabs and the nails showed through, as well as my nail tips, which were shorter than the fakes. It bothered me at first but after a while I stopped noticing it, and I don't think anyone else saw those details the way I do.
<div> <br /></div>
<a href="//www.aniploish.com/images/2023/10/ana_02.jpg"><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 600px; height: px;" src="//www.aniploish.com/images/2023/10/ana_02_sized.jpg" border="0" alt="" id="" /></a>
<br />
In filtered sun, hints of pink showed up.
<div> <br /></div>
<a href="//www.aniploish.com/images/2023/10/ana_03.jpg"><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 600px; height: px;" src="//www.aniploish.com/images/2023/10/ana_03_sized.jpg" border="0" alt="" id="" /></a>
<br />
In full sun, they went to a light magenta.
<div> <br /></div>
<a href="//www.aniploish.com/images/2023/10/ana_04.jpg"><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 600px; height: px;" src="//www.aniploish.com/images/2023/10/ana_04_sized.jpg" border="0" alt="" id="" /></a>
<br />
I kept hoping I'd see the deeper purple shown on the box, but I never caught them doing that in the week I wore them. Here they are at a rest area somewhere along the road.
<div> <br /></div>
<a href="//www.aniploish.com/images/2023/10/ana_05.jpg"><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 600px; height: px;" src="//www.aniploish.com/images/2023/10/ana_05_sized.jpg" border="0" alt="" id="" /></a>
<br />
These stayed on pretty well with the tabs and the color change aspect was fun. I'd wear this style again.

I was overly optimistic about what I could get done between my long trip and the shorter one I got back from earlier this week. But now I've managed to get through all the display photos I took on the long trip. I didn't document the shade names for these as I was limited in the time I could spend browsing in stores. Speaking of stores, I only went to ones I came across, so it was all Boots and Superdrug locations in London, Birmingham, and Southampton.
<br /><br />
I'd never seen a Barry M display in person before this one. It was mostly filled with Gelly shades, but there were treatments in the upper left and lower right. The bottom row had a few Hi Vis shades.
<div> <br /></div>
<a href="//www.aniploish.com/images/2023/09/d29_02.jpg"><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 600px; height: px;" src="//www.aniploish.com/images/2023/09/d29_02_sized.jpg" border="0" alt="" id="" /></a>
<br />
The same store had a little section with six Gelly shades, at least one of which was in the bigger section shown above, so I'm not sure what this was about ... seasonal collection of repromotes maybe. I did note the shade names here: All in One Basecoat Topcoat and Nail Hardener, Espresso, Chai Latte, Raspberry Ripple, Grape Soda, Pistachio, Pineapple Punch.
<div> <br /></div>
<a href="//www.aniploish.com/images/2023/09/d29_03.jpg"><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 600px; height: px;" src="//www.aniploish.com/images/2023/09/d29_03_sized.jpg" border="0" alt="" id="" /></a>
<br />
A Superdrug in Southampton had a wider selection of Barry M. This display had In a Flash quick dry colors on the left side, with Hi Viz neon color on the top right, with Velvet matte shades, Gelly Rose Tinted collection, and some glitters below that in the right hand side.
<div> <br /></div>
<a href="//www.aniploish.com/images/2023/09/d29_04.jpg"><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 600px; height: px;" src="//www.aniploish.com/images/2023/09/d29_04_sized.jpg" border="0" alt="" id="" /></a>
<br />
That same Superdrug also had a big display with Gelly colors and top/base/treatments. It was so big I didn't get it all in the frame of the photo ... ooops.
<div> <br /></div>
<a href="//www.aniploish.com/images/2023/09/d29_05.jpg"><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 600px; height: px;" src="//www.aniploish.com/images/2023/09/d29_05_sized.jpg" border="0" alt="" id="" /></a>
<br />
There were six more Gelly shades featured in that Superdrug in a separate display section. These weren't the same six as in the Boots in London, so not sure what's going on there.
<div> <br /></div>
<a href="//www.aniploish.com/images/2023/09/d29_06.jpg"><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 600px; height: px;" src="//www.aniploish.com/images/2023/09/d29_06_sized.jpg" border="0" alt="" id="" /></a>
<br />
<div> <br /></div>
I admit I was sorely tempted by the Boots brand fake nails, but resisted as I knew I had lots of sets of other brands at home.
<div> <br /></div>
<a href="//www.aniploish.com/images/2023/09/d29_11.jpg"><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 600px; height: px;" src="//www.aniploish.com/images/2023/09/d29_11_sized.jpg" border="0" alt="" id="" /></a>
<br />
I'd never heard of the Collection brand before, and only ran into one display for it. The top two rows were Spotlight Shine colors and the bottom two were Gel Effect.
<a href="//www.aniploish.com/images/2023/09/d29_07.jpg"><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 600px; height: px;" src="//www.aniploish.com/images/2023/09/d29_07_sized.jpg" border="0" alt="" id="" /></a>
<br />
Like the Boots fake nails, I was also tempted by the Elegant Touch ones, as I can't get that brand at home, but again, even though fakes are easier to use up than polish, I really need to use what I already have. (I was not tempted by the Kiss nails, as I have easy access to those.)
<div> <br /></div>
<a href="//www.aniploish.com/images/2023/09/d29_12.jpg"><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 600px; height: px;" src="//www.aniploish.com/images/2023/09/d29_12_sized.jpg" border="0" alt="" id="" /></a>
<br />
Essie isn't hard to find at home but it was still interesting to see the displays in England. This one at Superdrug had mini bottles, a line called Love by Essie that I don't recall seeing before (it's plant based), a bunch of shades in the regular line, a smaller selection of Gel Couture, and top/base/treatments.
<div> <br /></div>
<a href="//www.aniploish.com/images/2023/09/d29_08.jpg"><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 600px; height: px;" src="//www.aniploish.com/images/2023/09/d29_08_sized.jpg" border="0" alt="" id="" /></a>
<br />
At Boots, the display was similar, but had more shades and instead of the Love line, had an Expressie section.
<div> <br /></div>
<a href="//www.aniploish.com/images/2023/09/d29_09.jpg"><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 600px; height: px;" src="//www.aniploish.com/images/2023/09/d29_09_sized.jpg" border="0" alt="" id="" /></a>
<br />
A different Boots had a trending shades section above their main Essie display. This had Ballet Slippers, Birthday Girl (sold out), Cute as a Button, Lilacism, Salt Water Happy, and Mint Candy Apple.
<div> <br /></div>
<a href="//www.aniploish.com/images/2023/09/d29_10.jpg"><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 600px; height: px;" src="//www.aniploish.com/images/2023/09/d29_10_sized.jpg" border="0" alt="" id="" /></a>
<br />
I only saw a Kiko display once, at what I thought of as the fancy Boots (it was at least twice as big as any of the others I went into). This had removers, top/base/treatments, and shades from the Power Pro and Smart lines.
<div> <br /></div>
<a href="//www.aniploish.com/images/2023/09/d29_13.jpg"><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 600px; height: px;" src="//www.aniploish.com/images/2023/09/d29_13_sized.jpg" border="0" alt="" id="" /></a>
<br />
The only Makeup Academy polishes I saw were in this standing display with neon makeup for summmer.
<div> <br /></div>
<a href="//www.aniploish.com/images/2023/09/d29_19.jpg"><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 600px; height: px;" src="//www.aniploish.com/images/2023/09/d29_19_sized.jpg" border="0" alt="" id="" /></a>
<br />
I miss the days when Maybelline had lots of polish releases, so many with interesting colors and finishes. I saw two lines from them in England, both with a fairly tame selection of shades. Here's the Super Stay:
<div> <br /></div>
<a href="//www.aniploish.com/images/2023/09/d29_17.jpg"><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 600px; height: px;" src="//www.aniploish.com/images/2023/09/d29_17_sized.jpg" border="0" alt="" id="" /></a>
<br />
And the Fast Gel:
<div> <br /></div>
<a href="//www.aniploish.com/images/2023/09/d29_18.jpg"><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 600px; height: px;" src="//www.aniploish.com/images/2023/09/d29_18_sized.jpg" border="0" alt="" id="" /></a>
<br />
I have a soft spot for Max Factor as it was a brand my mom used. Their presence in the US seems to have faded a lot since then but it seems going strong in England. This display had three lines of nail polish: Nailfinity (longwear gel-like colour without a UV lamp), Miracle Pure Nail (plant-based and 100% vegan), and Masterpiece Xpress Quick Dry (60 seconds high shine rich colour).
<div> <br /></div>
<a href="//www.aniploish.com/images/2023/09/d29_14.jpg"><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 600px; height: px;" src="//www.aniploish.com/images/2023/09/d29_14_sized.jpg" border="0" alt="" id="" /></a>
<br />
A different store had this arrangement of Nailfinity and Masterpiece Xpress:
<div> <br /></div>
<a href="//www.aniploish.com/images/2023/09/d29_15.jpg"><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 600px; height: px;" src="//www.aniploish.com/images/2023/09/d29_15_sized.jpg" border="0" alt="" id="" /></a>
<br />
That store's stock of Miracle Pure Nail appeared to be a limited edition collection from Priyanka Chopra Jonas, with her name printed on the labels. I did get these shade names. Top row: Sparkling Light, Sunrise Glow, Radiant Rose, Vanilla Spice. Bottom: Winter Sunset, Daring Cherry, Bold Rosewood, Starry Night.
<div> <br /></div>
<a href="//www.aniploish.com/images/2023/09/d29_16.jpg"><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 600px; height: px;" src="//www.aniploish.com/images/2023/09/d29_16_sized.jpg" border="0" alt="" id="" /></a>
<br />
Like Collection, I hadn't heard of the My Mood brand before I saw the display. This was arranged by groups: Need a Top Up (glitters), Nude Mood (a range of skintone cremes), Nail the Dream (shimmery pastels), Next Level Neon (neons plus a white base), On the Brightside (seems a few pastels snuck into this part), Cult Classics (surprised the blue was here and not with brights), Treatments (bases, topcoat, oil), and Power Couples (pairs of compatible shades).
<div> <br /></div>
<a href="//www.aniploish.com/images/2023/09/d29_20.jpg"><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 600px; height: px;" src="//www.aniploish.com/images/2023/09/d29_20_sized.jpg" border="0" alt="" id="" /></a>
<br />
A closer look at the glitters, which almost made me break my no buying polish rule for this trip:
<div> <br /></div>
<a href="//www.aniploish.com/images/2023/09/d29_21.jpg"><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 600px; height: px;" src="//www.aniploish.com/images/2023/09/d29_21_sized.jpg" border="0" alt="" id="" /></a>
<br />
The Nails Inc display I saw had two rows of Plant Power shades (vegan and halal-friendly) on top with the traditional line below (neons, nudes, pastels, pinks, glitters, top/base/treatments) along with a row of the 45 Seconds Speedy Gloss shades.
<div> <br /></div>
<a href="//www.aniploish.com/images/2023/09/d29_22.jpg"><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 600px; height: px;" src="//www.aniploish.com/images/2023/09/d29_22_sized.jpg" border="0" alt="" id="" /></a>
<br />
The polish in the Revolution display at Superdrug had neons in round bottles and high gloss shades in squar ones.
<div> <br /></div>
<a href="//www.aniploish.com/images/2023/09/d29_23.jpg"><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 600px; height: px;" src="//www.aniploish.com/images/2023/09/d29_23_sized.jpg" border="0" alt="" id="" /></a>
<br />
At Boots, the Revolution polishes were not showcased as well but they had more varieties: Express Nails, Neon/Candy Nails, Gel Effect, and Nail Care.
<div> <br /></div>
<a href="//www.aniploish.com/images/2023/09/d29_24.jpg"><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 600px; height: px;" src="//www.aniploish.com/images/2023/09/d29_24_sized.jpg" border="0" alt="" id="" /></a>
<br />
This Rimmel display had Super Gel colors in the top rows and 60 Seconds Super Shine below with a few Glitter Bomb shades as well.
<div> <br /></div>
<a href="//www.aniploish.com/images/2023/09/d29_01.jpg"><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 600px; height: px;" src="//www.aniploish.com/images/2023/09/d29_01_sized.jpg" border="0" alt="" id="" /></a>
<br />
At another store they had a Rimmel Nail Bar section with a wider range of shades, including a couple glitter top coats. These were mostly 60 Seconds Super Shine with four rows of Super Gel in the upper right.
<div> <br /></div>
<a href="//www.aniploish.com/images/2023/09/d29_25.jpg"><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 600px; height: px;" src="//www.aniploish.com/images/2023/09/d29_25_sized.jpg" border="0" alt="" id="" /></a>
<br />
My old friend Sally Hansen had some represention over the pond. At Superdrug, they had a selection of Good Kind Pure, Miracle Gel, Insta Dri, and treatments.
<div> <br /></div>
<a href="//www.aniploish.com/images/2023/09/d29_26.jpg"><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 600px; height: px;" src="//www.aniploish.com/images/2023/09/d29_26_sized.jpg" border="0" alt="" id="" /></a>
<br />
At a Boots, they had a similar assortment of Sally Hansen.
<div> <br /></div>
<a href="//www.aniploish.com/images/2023/09/d29_27.jpg"><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 600px; height: px;" src="//www.aniploish.com/images/2023/09/d29_27_sized.jpg" border="0" alt="" id="" /></a>
<br />
I am still amazed that I managed to not buy any nail polish on my trip. Whenever I got tempted, I'd remind myself of the many many many beautiful untrieds waiting for me at home. I did buy three concealers and a foundation (and sunscreen and a few other things I used on the trip), and have bought a few polishes since I've been home, so as always I'm a work in progress.

I am back from my month-long vacation which took me to/through 15 states plus one country outside of the U.S. It was a journey with a lot of different events and modes of transportation which took me and Mr. Karen to places both familiar to us and new. I put neutral (but a tiny bit sparkly because I'm me) polish on my toes and packed fake nails for my fingers and off I went.
A few days before we left, I put on this set from imPress called Wash Away. It has light blue solid nails, light blue with tiny iridescent glitter nails, and light blue with a turquoise and navy flower and butterfly design nails. These started out medium length and square, but I cut and shaped them so they felt more comfortable and practical for me, as I often do with the longer fake nails.
<div> <br /></div>
<a href="//www.aniploish.com/images/2023/08/trip_01.JPG"><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 600px; height: px;" src="//www.aniploish.com/images/2023/08/trip_01_sized.JPG" border="0" alt="" id="" /></a>
<br />
Still looking good on day 6 (with the limited edition "XP Flavored" Coke limited edition).
<div> <br /></div>
<a href="//www.aniploish.com/images/2023/08/trip_02.jpg"><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 600px; height: px;" src="//www.aniploish.com/images/2023/08/trip_02_sized.jpg" border="0" alt="" id="" /></a>
<br />
I had a few nails loosen and need new adhesive tabs during the week I wore the blue set, so pretty standard.
The next set of nails I used were from the Kiss Gel Fantasy Allure line. The box didn't have a name on it, but I looked online and these appear to be called How Dazzling. They have multi-sized iridescent glitter on a translucent ivory base. (The box was a bit worse for wear after being stuffed in a pocket of my suitcase for a week at that point.)
<div> <br /></div>
<a href="//www.aniploish.com/images/2023/08/trip_03.jpg"><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 600px; height: px;" src="//www.aniploish.com/images/2023/08/trip_03_sized.jpg" border="0" alt="" id="" /></a>
<br />
I used adhesive tabs for these, not the glue that came with them. I clipped and shaped them as I had the blue set. On the left, as they came from the box. On the right, how I wore them.
<div> <br /></div>
<a href="//www.aniploish.com/images/2023/08/trip_04.jpg"><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 600px; height: px;" src="//www.aniploish.com/images/2023/08/trip_04_sized.jpg" border="0" alt="" id="" /></a>
<br />
I wore the glittery nails for the whole second week of the trip. When it was time to change, I reached for a set I'd gotten off the Temu app, where they were described as "Press On Nails, Short Square Fake Nails, Beige French False Nails with Glitter Design, Glossy Clear Full Cover Acrylic Nails for Women and Girls; Color: Beige Cat Eye, Style: Gentle". The picture didn't appear to match a lot of those words, but for $3.48 I was willing to risk it.
<div> <br /></div>
<a href="//www.aniploish.com/images/2023/08/trip_05.jpg"><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 600px; height: px;" src="//www.aniploish.com/images/2023/08/trip_05_sized.jpg" border="0" alt="" id="" /></a>
<br />
These came with adhesive tabs. They were not short, so I clipped and filed them. They were a bit sheer, so before I shortened them, a hint of my natural nail tips showed through the fake nails in strong light.
<div> <br /></div>
<a href="//www.aniploish.com/images/2023/08/trip_06.jpg"><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 600px; height: px;" src="//www.aniploish.com/images/2023/08/trip_06_sized.jpg" border="0" alt="" id="" /></a>
<br />
Six days later, I hadn't lost a single nail. Those adhesive tabs were strong. I'm sure it helped that I didn't have my laptop with me, so wasn't banging my nails on a keyboard for a few hours a day like I tend to do at home.
<div> <br /></div>
<a href="//www.aniploish.com/images/2023/08/trip_07.jpg"><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 600px; height: px;" src="//www.aniploish.com/images/2023/08/trip_07_sized.jpg" border="0" alt="" id="" /></a>
<br />
I'd planned to change my nails again before the next phase of our trip, a seven-night transatlantic cruise, but they were holding up so well, I still had them on the day we boarded, a week after I'd applied them.
<div> <br /></div>
<a href="//www.aniploish.com/images/2023/08/trip_08.jpg"><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 600px; height: px;" src="//www.aniploish.com/images/2023/08/trip_08_sized.jpg" border="0" alt="" id="" /></a>
<br />
I figured I'd change to the last set I'd packed when I started to lose the beige cat eye ones as the adhesive got weakened, but they just kept hanging in there, so I ended up wearing them for the whole cruise and the multi-day drive home from New York to Idaho. There was definitely a gap at the base of my nails by that time, but given the neutral color of the nails it wasn't too noticeable.
<div> <br /></div>
<a href="//www.aniploish.com/images/2023/08/trip_09.jpg"><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 600px; height: px;" src="//www.aniploish.com/images/2023/08/trip_09_sized.jpg" border="0" alt="" id="" /></a>
<br />
On the trip, I was really trying to focus on experiences rather than buying things, so even though I saw polish and fake nails I don't have easy access to at home, I bought none of them. I'm kind of amazed at my self-control. I will have a display post up once I get through all the photos; hoping that won't take too long.KarenDhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/05022790587742613590noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6157275137491945725.post-84898712561227147032023-07-22T19:11:00.000-07:002023-07-22T19:11:19.163-07:00A Few More Displays Before Summer VacationI know I did a display post <a href="https://thekarend.blogspot.com/2023/07/no-nail-wheel-just-displays.html">just recently</a>, but I've seen a few more things since then, and I'm about to go on a month long hiatus so wanted to get them posted before that. Thus the rare Saturday post, as I've been running around getting ready for the trip and only able to sit and work on this today.
I went back to those Ardell fake nails that I shared from Fred Meyer last display post, as I decided I wanted to try a few of the sets and saw one set that must have been hiding last time, a Flash & Sparkle set with gold reflective glitter.
<div> <br /></div>
<a href="//www.aniploish.com/images/2023/07/d22_02.jpg"><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 600px; height: px;" src="//www.aniploish.com/images/2023/07/d22_02_sized.jpg" border="0" alt="" id="" /></a>
<br />
Ulta had a Maybelline and Essie display nowhere near where the rest of the Essie was. This had the four new Expressie FX topcoats: Iced Out, Immaterial Frost, Faux Real, and Ethereal Glow. Given I've yet to use any of the first set of FX topcoats I got, I passed on these, but I don't know how long I'll stay strong.
<div> <br /></div>
<a href="//www.aniploish.com/images/2023/07/d22_09.jpg"><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 600px; height: px;" src="//www.aniploish.com/images/2023/07/d22_09_sized.jpg" border="0" alt="" id="" /></a>
<br />
Ulta had an endcap display of Glamnetic fake nails. This had three sections: Bestsellers on Top (Favorites for Every Occasion), Limited Edition in the middle (Trend-Setting, Viral-Worthy Manis), and Customizable on the bottom (Create Your Perfect Length and Shape. The bottom section was the most interesting, as it had a very elaborate nail clipper promising a perfect cut every time. It's got a dial with different nail shapes and lengths. I've been cutting and shaping mine by eye, and I think they look okay so I'll just keep doing that. I was confused by the nails in this section as most had designs that wouldn't work so well if the ends of the tips were cut off.
<div> <br /></div>
<a href="//www.aniploish.com/images/2023/07/d22_06.jpg"><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 600px; height: px;" src="//www.aniploish.com/images/2023/07/d22_06_sized.jpg" border="0" alt="" id="" /></a>
<br />
I saw a Kiss display with a Marilyn Monroe themed collection of fake nails. I don't know much about nail trends in the 1950s but these did seem like classic colors and styles.
<div> <br /></div>
<a href="//www.aniploish.com/images/2023/07/d22_05.jpg"><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 600px; height: px;" src="//www.aniploish.com/images/2023/07/d22_05_sized.jpg" border="0" alt="" id="" /></a>
<br />
Fred Meyer had a relatively untouched display of OPI Nature Strong. This said "Even More Flowerful" and "New botancial base coat, shades, and glitters" on it, but I haven't paid hardly any attention to this line since it was first introduced so not sure how new any of this is. I should do some more research on the glitters at least, to see if they really are better for the environment that the ones in traditional polish. Front row, left to right: Botanical Base Coat, Big Bluetiful Planet, Eco For It, Mind-full of Glitter, Glowing Places.Top row: Natural Origin Top Coat, Kind of a Twig Deal, A Kick in the Bud, Bee the Change, Leaf By Example.

<br />
A Walgreens had some Sally Hansen polishes lined up on a shelf next to the beauty section cash register. I almost walked on by because they weren't in a display and looked like shades I'd seen before, but I figured I was there and not in that big a hurry so stopped and found one of the new Miracle Gel toppers, Moonlit Top Coat. This is the flaky one similar to Essie Shine of the Times. The only sign of the other new one, Glazed, was the price tag stuck to the shelf. That one is also a flaky but iridescent rather than shifty (as I understand based on my five minutes of internet research). I think these are supposed to be part of the core line, but there were not slots for them in the core display area when I went to look.
<div> <br /></div>
<a href="//www.aniploish.com/images/2023/07/d22_03.jpg"><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 600px; height: px;" src="//www.aniploish.com/images/2023/07/d22_03_sized.jpg" border="0" alt="" id="" /></a>
<br />
The Rite Aid around the corner from the Walgreens (well, around the corner and down one very long block) had the Sally Hansen Miracle Gel 90s Nail Party display. In addition to the top and base coats and few core colors in the back row, this had eight bright shades: Did I Blue That, Nostalchick, Frosted Tips, Nice Nice Baby, Toadally Buggin', Mixtape, Be Bright Back, and Meet Me at the Mall. If you'll excuse me, I'm going to dry up into dust and blow away now, as the 90s being retro and nostalgic now makes me feel ancient.
<div> <br /></div>
<a href="//www.aniploish.com/images/2023/07/d22_04.jpg"><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 600px; height: px;" src="//www.aniploish.com/images/2023/07/d22_04_sized.jpg" border="0" alt="" id="" /></a>
<br />
I was very sad to see that the display at Ulta for the Sally Hansen Sesame Street collection was nearly empty by the time I saw it. Fortunately (I guess?) the slots were labeled so I could get an idea of what I was missing. Nine shades in this collection: Elmo Loves Hue, Perfect Friendship, Up to Snuff, Think Big, Scram, Turquesa Brilliante, C is for Color, Am I Not Adora-blue, and 1 Polish Ah Ah Ah. The Clearly Quick was there, too. The last slot on the right appears to have been for fake nail sets, which I surmise only becacuse there was a photo of them on a second display (see below). I looked online and Ulta already has these colors on clearance and only four were left when I looked, so I guess I'm going to have to miss out seeing the missing ones in person.
<div> <br /></div>
<a href="//www.aniploish.com/images/2023/07/d22_07.jpg"><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 600px; height: px;" src="//www.aniploish.com/images/2023/07/d22_07_sized.jpg" border="0" alt="" id="" /></a>
<br />
The other Sesame Street display had sets of four polishes next to a photo of those aforementioned fake nails.
<div> <br /></div>
<a href="//www.aniploish.com/images/2023/07/d22_08.jpg"><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 600px; height: px;" src="//www.aniploish.com/images/2023/07/d22_08_sized.jpg" border="0" alt="" id="" /></a>
<br />
I felt bad that I hadn't recorded (or even looked at) the names of the W7 polishes I shared in my previous display post, so I took the time to look when I was back at that store. I'm reusing the previous photo, as on this visit the display was a bit worse for wear (cretins who test polish on the displays need to stay home until they can control themselves). Colors left to right: Puerto Rico, Nicosia, Watermelon (pretty sure; my photo is blurry), Pink About, White, Lake, Brazen Blue, Mintimalistic, St. Lucia, Sprung Lilac, Brazil, Hawaii.
<div> <br /></div>
<a href="//www.aniploish.com/images/2023/07/d05_12.jpg"><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 600px; height: px;" src="//www.aniploish.com/images/2023/07/d05_12_sized.jpg" border="0" alt="" id="" /></a>
<br />
That's all for now. See you in late August if all goes to plan.

I'm still not back to my old display hunting habits (and don't think I ever will be but who knows), but do have to go into stores that have nail polish along with other things and sometimes I see things to take photos of.=
Let's kick things off with the three displays of Ardell Nail Addict fake nails I saw at Fred Meyer. There were some interesting things here I hadn't seen in fake nails before. This first display featured Flash & Sparkle nails, which have reflective glitter applied to them in different patterns. Tucked in center back there is a set of Ecofab, the box for which says they're "plant based" and "100% biodegradable". I guess those are something like the compostable cutlery offered at some places as a plastic alternative?
<div> <br /></div>
<a href="//www.aniploish.com/images/2023/07/d05_13.jpg"><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 600px; height: px;" src="//www.aniploish.com/images/2023/07/d05_13_sized.jpg" border="0" alt="" id="" /></a>
<br />
The second Ardell display had another two things I hadn't seen in fake nails before. The Sun Kissed sets are like solar polishes, changing color in the sun. The Eco Mani sets are made from recycled plastic.
<div> <br /></div>
<a href="//www.aniploish.com/images/2023/07/d05_14.jpg"><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 600px; height: px;" src="//www.aniploish.com/images/2023/07/d05_14_sized.jpg" border="0" alt="" id="" /></a>
<br />
The last display had sets similar to ones I'd seen from other brands but they were still pretty. These are called Velvet. At first I thought that meant a physical texture, but it's meant to evoke the visual texture of velvet fabric that shimmers and shifts. Similar to some magnetic polishes.
<div> <br /></div>
<a href="//www.aniploish.com/images/2023/07/d05_15.jpg"><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 600px; height: px;" src="//www.aniploish.com/images/2023/07/d05_15_sized.jpg" border="0" alt="" id="" /></a>
<br />
There was a China Glaze collection for Pride (I assume, what with the rainbow colors and Love Is Love tagline) at Fred Meyer. A bold/neon twist on traditional Pride flag colors. Left to right: Flame-boyant, In the Lime Light (not yellow-leaning enough to be lime in my book but ok), Tropic Like It's Hot, Summer Reign, Orange Knockout, Crushin' on Blue.
<div> <br /></div>
<a href="//www.aniploish.com/images/2023/07/d05_03.jpg"><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 600px; height: px;" src="//www.aniploish.com/images/2023/07/d05_03_sized.jpg" border="0" alt="" id="" /></a>
<br />
This Dashing Diva display at Ulta caught my eye. The top shelf has semi-cured gel strips, both pedicure and manicure versions, with an emphasis on the glazed donut look for the latter. The middle shelf has the no-light/no curing needed strips like the ones I used <a href="https://thekarend.blogspot.com/2023/03/dashing-diva-gloss-gel-nail-strips.html">back in March</a>,
<div> <br /></div>
<a href="//www.aniploish.com/images/2023/07/d05_08.jpg"><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 600px; height: px;" src="//www.aniploish.com/images/2023/07/d05_08_sized.jpg" border="0" alt="" id="" /></a>
<br />
A Walgreens had what I assume is the Essie summer collection, Push Play. Bold colors with neutral accents here. Left to right: Grass Never Greener, Press Play, Sunshine Be Mine, Start Signs Only, Climbing High, and In My Sandbox.
<div> <br /></div>
<a href="//www.aniploish.com/images/2023/07/d05_09.jpg"><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 600px; height: px;" src="//www.aniploish.com/images/2023/07/d05_09_sized.jpg" border="0" alt="" id="" /></a>
<br />
Ulta had the Push Play collection, too, though in a slightly different display (not pictured as it wasn't that different from the one above). They also had the Essie Vintage Vanity collection, which was tagged "New + Only Here". In front, left to right: Born to Adorn, Vintage Vanity, Pretty in Pearls, and Unhidden Gem. In back: Primp & Powder, Not So Naturale.
<div> <br /></div>
<a href="//www.aniploish.com/images/2023/07/d05_10.jpg"><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 600px; height: px;" src="//www.aniploish.com/images/2023/07/d05_10_sized.jpg" border="0" alt="" id="" /></a>
<br />
At a Fred Meyer store in Washington, I saw a display of the Hip Chic semi-cured gel strips that, unlike the ones at the Idaho store I go to most often, weren't on clearance. These were all designs I hadn't seen at my store, so maybe it was just old sets that were being clearanced and there's a display like this I missed there? In addition to the strips, this display had cuticle oil and something called "fresh serum", which I guess a treatment.
<div> <br /></div>
<a href="//www.aniploish.com/images/2023/07/d05_01.jpg"><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 600px; height: px;" src="//www.aniploish.com/images/2023/07/d05_01_sized.jpg" border="0" alt="" id="" /></a>
<br />
The OPI sections of the big nail unit at the Ulta I was in were poorly stocked and of course poorly lit for photos. I guess the summer collection is called Summer Make the Rules.
<div> <br /></div>
<a href="//www.aniploish.com/images/2023/07/d05_11.jpg"><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 600px; height: px;" src="//www.aniploish.com/images/2023/07/d05_11_sized.jpg" border="0" alt="" id="" /></a>
<br />
When I was on my road trip last month, I stopped in a Five Below and saw this display for Pretty Woman Stardust collection. Some of these were really tempting, but I told myself I have similar polishes at home. Left to right: Intergalatic (deep blue shimmer with purple flash), Eternity (burgundy shimmer with gold flash), Break the Silence (deep teal shimmer), Stardust (gold glitter topper), Black Shadow (deep charcoal shimmer), and Looks Can Kill (rosy red shimmer with peach flash).
<div> <br /></div>
<a href="//www.aniploish.com/images/2023/07/d05_02.jpg"><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 600px; height: px;" src="//www.aniploish.com/images/2023/07/d05_02_sized.jpg" border="0" alt="" id="" /></a>
<br />
My old friend Sally Hansen has slowed down some, but she's still putting out limited edition collections, like this year's Pride offering, which I saw at Fred Meyer. It's called Pride & Shine, though that's hard to see since come cretins painted over that part. Mischievous kids or bigots? In north Idaho, it's hard to know who did it. I did have to rearrange bottles to get the front row stocked with the main rainbow colors, plus two of the trans ones. Left to right: Cherry-ish You, Healing Feeling, Sunshine Shimmers, Petal Dance, Blue Serenity, Berry Spirited, Someone Like Blue, and Pinky Please. There are a few more that didn't fit into the front row: Pearl Treasure (white), Espresso Yourself (brown), and Bold Rush (black).
<div> <br /></div>
<a href="//www.aniploish.com/images/2023/07/d05_04.jpg"><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 600px; height: px;" src="//www.aniploish.com/images/2023/07/d05_04_sized.jpg" border="0" alt="" id="" /></a>
<br />
I later saw a Pride & Shine display at Ulta, which only had a box set of the trans colors: Someone Like Blue, Pinky Please, and Pearl Treasure. There were prices listed for two other sets, a duo and a six-pack, but those appeared to be sold out. The display card had circles with twelve different colors, all the ones I'd seen at Fred Meyer plus one I hadn't noticed that appeared to be a glitter topper.
<div> <br /></div>
<a href="//www.aniploish.com/images/2023/07/d05_05.jpg"><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 600px; height: px;" src="//www.aniploish.com/images/2023/07/d05_05_sized.jpg" border="0" alt="" id="" /></a>
<br />
So I'm a bit bummed about the nearly empty display then round the corner and find the missing two sets just sitting on top of the big nail polish unit. The duo has the mysterious glitter in it, Get GLAAD, and Pearl Treasure. The six-pack is a ROYGBV (no indigo) rainbow. No idea where the black and brown came into Ulta's display; they're in those color circles on the card but doesn't seem there was a place for them in the display. Odd. Also odd is that I failed to notice the glitter was in the Fred Meyer display, three bottles of it in the back. I guess I saw the Peeps white also thrown in there and figured it was an old polish from another collection. I'm slipping.
<div> <br /></div>
<a href="//www.aniploish.com/images/2023/07/d05_06.jpg"><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 600px; height: px;" src="//www.aniploish.com/images/2023/07/d05_06_sized.jpg" border="0" alt="" id="" /></a>
<br />
Sally Hansen has another collection out now in the Miracle Gel line. This is a collaboration with the Keith Haring foundation/estate and has cremes in it. Left to right: Go Figures, Sketched in Stone, Red-iant Baby, Writing on the Walls, Colour Instinct, Contempor-airy, Blanc Canvas. There were also top coats in the display. Looking at this photo, I might have to see if I can find Go Figures to buy; it's a fairly unusual shade and I like that they changed the color of the Miracle Gel logo on the bottle for this one (and the black and the white, but I sure have enough of those creme shades in my stash).
<div> <br /></div>
<a href="//www.aniploish.com/images/2023/07/d05_07.jpg"><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 600px; height: px;" src="//www.aniploish.com/images/2023/07/d05_07_sized.jpg" border="0" alt="" id="" /></a>
<br />
This past weekend, I saw a display for the W7 brand at Fred Meyer. I didn't take the time to document the names, as I was in bit of a rush getting to a party (not so much of one I didn't swing through the beauty aisles, obviously). These looked to be cremes, and the shade range was mostly "safe" colors with a few pops of blue and yellow, but I'm all for more mainstream polish, so I did stop and look. Plus they're priced at only $2.99 so yay for a more afforadable option.
<div> <br /></div>
<a href="//www.aniploish.com/images/2023/07/d05_12.jpg"><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 600px; height: px;" src="//www.aniploish.com/images/2023/07/d05_12_sized.jpg" border="0" alt="" id="" /></a>
<br />
I wonder if there will be another resurgence of mainstream/drugstore brands. Or has the business landscape changed too much and we'll never get back to the number of brands and collections there were before. I still plan to be the lady in the assisted living home with wild nails, but I have enough polish in my collection to make that happen regardless of what's in stores decades from now.

Today I have a set of the almond shaped ones called Sweet as Candy, which has nails in five pastel creme shades: lavender, peach, yellow, blue, and pink.

<a href="//www.aniploish.com/images/2023/06/shal_01.JPG"><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 600px; height: px;" src="//www.aniploish.com/images/2023/06/shal_01_sized.JPG" border="0" alt="Sally Hansen Salon Effects Perfect Manicure Nails in Sweet as Candy" id="" /></a>
<br />
When I got to selecting nails that fit me, I was surprised to see that nails in the same size weren't necessarily the same color as each other. I noticed it with the three or four biggest sizes. That's a bit unusual; in most sets, if there are only two of a size, they'll match. So I couldn't make my hands match each other, which is fine, especially for a Skittles set like this. Here's my right hand (the thumbnail is lavender):
<div> <br /></div>
<a href="//www.aniploish.com/images/2023/06/shal_02.JPG"><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 600px; height: px;" src="//www.aniploish.com/images/2023/06/shal_02_sized.JPG" border="0" alt="Sally Hansen Salon Effects Perfect Manicure Nails in Sweet as Candy" id="" /></a>
<br />
And my left (the thumbnail is peach):
<div> <br /></div>
<a href="//www.aniploish.com/images/2023/06/shal_03.JPG"><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 600px; height: px;" src="//www.aniploish.com/images/2023/06/shal_03_sized.JPG" border="0" alt="Sally Hansen Salon Effects Perfect Manicure Nails in Sweet as Candy" id="" /></a>
<br />
I wish I'd swapped the middle and thumb colors left to right, so there would have been more warm/cool balance on my non-thumb digits, but that probably wouldn't bother most people. As far as fit goes, these were pretty good for me, though I wished the bases were a bit narrower especially on the size that was the closest match to my middle finger. The shape is not my favorite, what with the scratchy point (even after I smoothed with the included file). The tip also curves down, maybe to make the point less likely to stab something.
<div> <br /></div>
<a href="//www.aniploish.com/images/2023/06/shal_04.JPG"><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 600px; height: px;" src="//www.aniploish.com/images/2023/06/shal_04_sized.JPG" border="0" alt="Sally Hansen Salon Effects Perfect Manicure Nails in Sweet as Candy" id="" /></a>
<br />
I know I could probably get used to the shape and the length—indeed, I did type on my laptop with them on—but after a few hours, I clipped and filed them into more of an oval shape. Ah, much better for my lifestyle.
<div> <br /></div>
<a href="//www.aniploish.com/images/2023/06/shal_05.JPG"><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 600px; height: px;" src="//www.aniploish.com/images/2023/06/shal_05_sized.JPG" border="0" alt="Sally Hansen Salon Effects Perfect Manicure Nails in Sweet as Candy" id="" /></a>
<br />
As with the previous sets, I used the adhesive tabs, and the nails stayed on decently well. What they didn't do was wear well. The colors don't go all through the nails but are applied on a white base, and after four days, the color was wearing off the tips of the nails and letting the white show. This was most noticeable on the fingers I use the most for grabbing things and such, but it was there on on all them to some extent by day five. Perhaps this was caused or at least made worse by my clipping and filing them to a new shape, except the color scraped off a small section of my index nail nowhere near the edge, so maybe not.
<div> <br /></div>
<a href="//www.aniploish.com/images/2023/06/shal_06.JPG"><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 600px; height: px;" src="//www.aniploish.com/images/2023/06/shal_06_sized.JPG" border="0" alt="Sally Hansen Salon Effects Perfect Manicure Nails in Sweet as Candy" id="" /></a>
<br />
So far I've liked the solid color oval nails from Sally Hansen the best. Those didn't need clipping and filing to fit my life or nails and they wore well. I'm glad I tried these almond ones but I don't see myself getting more of them. <div> <br /></div>
Well hello again. I'm recently back from my not officially summer yet vacation, a road trip from Idaho to Illinois and back again. In a bold move, I left my laptop at home, which meant, among other things, that I was able to wear longer fake nails than usual, but that's a story for another day. The story for today is that Kokie kindly sent me some polishes in colors perfect for spring. Left to right: Iris, Rock Star, Crown Jewel, Classic, Georgia Peach, All the Envy.
<div> <br /></div>
<a href="//www.aniploish.com/images/2023/06/kosp_01.JPG"><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 600px; height: px;" src="//www.aniploish.com/images/2023/06/kosp_01_sized.JPG" border="0" alt="Kokie nail polish" id="" /></a>
<br />
I started with Classic, a pale milky peach crelly. This was buildable; I did four coats but could have stopped at three for a faux French mani look. This is indeed classic. I wore similar polishes for years early in my career as an accountant when I was trying to fit the mold of a serious businesswoman.
<div> <br /></div>
<a href="//www.aniploish.com/images/2023/06/kosp_02.JPG"><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 600px; height: px;" src="//www.aniploish.com/images/2023/06/kosp_02_sized.JPG" border="0" alt="Kokie nail polish in Classic" id="" /></a>
<br />
Nothing like dots to quickly add color, so I decorated with Georgia Peach, Iris, and All the Envy before adding clear topcoat.
<div> <br /></div>
<a href="//www.aniploish.com/images/2023/06/kosp_03.JPG"><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 600px; height: px;" src="//www.aniploish.com/images/2023/06/kosp_03_sized.JPG" border="0" alt="Kokie nail polish in Classic with a dotticure" id="" /></a>
<br />
Iris is a light lilac creme. This one covered in two coats.
<div> <br /></div>
<a href="//www.aniploish.com/images/2023/06/kosp_04.JPG"><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 600px; height: px;" src="//www.aniploish.com/images/2023/06/kosp_04_sized.JPG" border="0" alt="Kokie nail polish in Iris" id="" /></a>
<br />
I topped Iris with Crown Jewel, which has blue and holographic blue glitter in a sheer gold shimmer base.
(I knew this would work because I swatched a different bottle of it over another light cool creme <a href="https://thekarend.blogspot.com/2019/06/kokie-quartet.html">back in 2019</a>. Because I was craving sparkle, I used two coats of Crown Jewel and added clear topcoat to bring out the bling even more.
<div> <br /></div>
<a href="//www.aniploish.com/images/2023/06/kosp_05.JPG"><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 600px; height: px;" src="//www.aniploish.com/images/2023/06/kosp_05_sized.JPG" border="0" alt="Kokie nail polish in Iris topped with Crown Jewel" id="" /></a>
<br />
All the Envy is a medium green creme. I used two coats for my swatch.
<div> <br /></div>
<a href="//www.aniploish.com/images/2023/06/kosp_06.JPG"><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 600px; height: px;" src="//www.aniploish.com/images/2023/06/kosp_06_sized.JPG" border="0" alt="Kokie nail polish in All the Envy" id="" /></a>
<br />
I put one coat of Crown Jewel on top of All the Envy and added topcoat to that. The somewhat deeper base brought out the gold in Crown Jewel more than Iris had.
<div> <br /></div>
<a href="//www.aniploish.com/images/2023/06/kosp_07.JPG"><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 600px; height: px;" src="//www.aniploish.com/images/2023/06/kosp_07_sized.JPG" border="0" alt="Kokie nail polish in Crown Jewel over All the Envy" id="" /></a>
<br />
I combined Rock Star, a warm lavender flecked shimmer, and Georgia Peach, a light red-leaning orange creme, into a funky French look alternating with Georgia Peach alone. Rock Star took three coats and Georgia Peach two. I did add topcoat to the funky French nails to smooth the line between the polishes. This look does say spring to me. If you want to see Rock Star on its own, I swatched a bottle I bought myself <a href="https://thekarend.blogspot.com/2019/04/kokie-rock-star-and-twinkle.html">back in 2019</a> (and also topped it with another Kokie shimmer/glitter topper).
<div> <br /></div>
<a href="//www.aniploish.com/images/2023/06/kosp_08.JPG"><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 600px; height: px;" src="//www.aniploish.com/images/2023/06/kosp_08_sized.JPG" border="0" alt="Kokie nail polish in Rock Star and Georgia Peach" id="" /></a>
<br />
Given that Rock Star was three coats, I wondered if it would work as a topper, so I laid down a base of two coats of Iris and added one coat of Rock Star to all but my index finger. I really liked the combination. Rock Star warmed up Iris just a tiny bit, and Iris brought out the pale golden shimmer in Rock Star.
<div> <br /></div>
<a href="//www.aniploish.com/images/2023/06/kosp_09.JPG"><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 600px; height: px;" src="//www.aniploish.com/images/2023/06/kosp_09_sized.JPG" border="0" alt="Kokie nail polish in Iris topped with Rock Star" id="" /></a>
<br />
These are all nice polishes; good basic cremes and some bling to liven them up. It's nice that Kokie doesn't seem to discontinue things too quickly, given that I got two of these colors four years ago and you can get them today.
<i>The polishes shown in this entry were provided free for review purposes. The content of the entry was not dictated by the provider, and I get to keep the polishes for my own use.</i>

These are mostly shimmers but also some are sort of metallic. As for color, I went with pewter, since they're dirtier than silver, and some definitely lean brown/gold/olive. Regardless of what to call them, they all looked like they went together when I was sorting polish. I like these sorts of murky shades.
This is the last wheel I've painted and due to other committments it might be a while before I paint more, but I will paint more because I like the process of sorting and swatching and seeing what's in all those bottles I've collected.

Still, habits are hard to break, so whenever I'm in a store that carries nail polish, I tend to drift to that section regardless. On a trip to Fred Meyer, I stopped at the clearance bins and found a whole bunch of boxes with Hip Chic Semi-Cured Gel Nail Strips in them. I'd never seen them at full price, so that's a sign I am shopping way less often than I used to. I figured it was a sign I should try them, so I bought a starter kit with the LED lamp in it (despite having at least two other LED lamps somewhere in my stash) and several sets of strips. I've now used these strips three times over the past two months so felt it was time to share.
There was still plenty of snow around when I tried these the first time, so I chose the Freezing Blossom set, which has light blue with silver microglitter strips with two kinds of accent nails: white with snowperson faces and clear with white snowflakes.
<div> <br /></div>
<a href="//www.aniploish.com/images/2023/05/hcgs_01.JPG"><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 600px; height: px;" src="//www.aniploish.com/images/2023/05/hcgs_01_sized.JPG" border="0" alt="Hip Chic Semi-Cured Gel Nail Strips" id="" /></a>
<br />
<div> <br /></div>
<a href="//www.aniploish.com/images/2023/05/hcgs_02.JPG"><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 600px; height: px;" src="//www.aniploish.com/images/2023/05/hcgs_02_sized.JPG" border="0" alt="Hip Chic Semi-Cured Gel Nail Strips" id="" /></a>
<br />
The lamp that came with the starter kit was wide enough to get four nails at a time in, then my two thumbs side to side. The legs fold flat for storage.
<div> <br /></div>
<a href="//www.aniploish.com/images/2023/05/hcgs_03.JPG"><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 600px; height: px;" src="//www.aniploish.com/images/2023/05/hcgs_03_sized.JPG" border="0" alt="Hip Chic Semi-Cured Gel Nail Strips" id="" /></a>
<br />
These strips were even thicker than the <a href="https://thekarend.blogspot.com/2023/03/dashing-diva-gloss-gel-nail-strips.html">Dashing Diva Gloss Gel</a> strips I used earlier this year. That was good for covering the ridges in my nails but made it more difficult to remove the excess length of the strips. Rather than folding and filing as I usually do with strips, with these clipping as close to the end of my nails as I could and then filing worked better. I used only the blue and clear strips for my look, mostly because I didn't like the placement of the snowperson faces on the white strips.
<div> <br /></div>
<a href="//www.aniploish.com/images/2023/05/hcgs_04.JPG"><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 600px; height: px;" src="//www.aniploish.com/images/2023/05/hcgs_04_sized.JPG" border="0" alt="Hip Chic Semi-Cured Gel Nail Strips" id="" /></a>
<br />
<div> <br /></div>
<a href="//www.aniploish.com/images/2023/05/hcgs_05.JPG"><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 600px; height: px;" src="//www.aniploish.com/images/2023/05/hcgs_05_sized.JPG" border="0" alt="Hip Chic Semi-Cured Gel Nail Strips" id="" /></a>
<br />
I liked the look of these, and after they were cured felt almost as hard as fake nails. Unfortunately, they also popped off like fake nails. I lost the first ones just a few days after I'd applied them. The clear strips seemed most likely to pop off. With the first one, I tried reattaching like I would a fake nail, but that didn't really work, as they just popped off again. Fortunately there were enough extra strips that I could just put a new one on and cure it.
<div> <br /></div>
<a href="//www.aniploish.com/images/2023/05/hcgs_06.JPG"><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 600px; height: px;" src="//www.aniploish.com/images/2023/05/hcgs_06_sized.JPG" border="0" alt="Hip Chic Semi-Cured Gel Nail Strips" id="" /></a>
<br />
A few days after the popping off started, I got some chips, like sometimes happens with traditional polish. Here you can see one on my thumb that I'd tried to disguise with liquid polish and one on my index finger. I removed these shortly after I took these pictures, using oil to loosen the bond of the strips and then gently prying them off with a manicure stick per the instructions. Six days of wear wasn't too bad, I suppose.
<div> <br /></div>
<a href="//www.aniploish.com/images/2023/05/hcgs_07.JPG"><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 600px; height: px;" src="//www.aniploish.com/images/2023/05/hcgs_07_sized.JPG" border="0" alt="Hip Chic Semi-Cured Gel Nail Strips" id="" /></a>
<br />
The instructions caution against using these strips continuously (bit a of a warning sign there?), so I waited before trying the next set, My Dear. This has solid red strips, red with white hearts, red with red hearts on a clear background in a sort of reverse French mani arrangement, and red and white checkboards with hearts.
<div> <br /></div>
<a href="//www.aniploish.com/images/2023/05/hcgs_08.JPG"><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 600px; height: px;" src="//www.aniploish.com/images/2023/05/hcgs_08_sized.JPG" border="0" alt="Hip Chic Semi-Cured Gel Nail Strips" id="" /></a>
<br />
I did mostly the solid red strips, with one accent nail per hand. I thought maybe I'd overcured the first set; the directions said to use the lamp 2 to 3 times, so I did 3. I did 2 rounds of 60 seconds with these and they held up better. Whether that was because of the reduced curing leaving them a bit more flexible, or the lack of full length clear strips, or what, I'm not sure.
<div> <br /></div>
<a href="//www.aniploish.com/images/2023/05/hcgs_09.JPG"><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 600px; height: px;" src="//www.aniploish.com/images/2023/05/hcgs_09_sized.JPG" border="0" alt="Hip Chic Semi-Cured Gel Nail Strips" id="" /></a>
<br />
<div> <br /></div>
<a href="//www.aniploish.com/images/2023/05/hcgs_10.JPG"><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 600px; height: px;" src="//www.aniploish.com/images/2023/05/hcgs_10_sized.JPG" border="0" alt="Hip Chic Semi-Cured Gel Nail Strips" id="" /></a>
<br />
I used the strips from the starter kit most recently. These are called Be Born and are all solid warm beige. I did have issues with these starting to pop off after a few days. Maybe my natural nails are just too thin and flexible to make a good base for these.
<div> <br /></div>
<a href="//www.aniploish.com/images/2023/05/hcgs_11.jpg"><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 600px; height: px;" src="//www.aniploish.com/images/2023/05/hcgs_11_sized.jpg" border="0" alt="Hip Chic Semi-Cured Gel Nail Strips" id="" /></a>
<br />
I did have issues with this last set starting to pop off after a few days. Maybe my natural nails are just too thin and flexible to make a good base for these, or maybe I was just too hard on them this time (I was at a craft conference where I was doing a fair bit of macrame).
I'd never used this type of strip before. I like the concept; they're easy to apply and with the curing, should hold up better than strips that don't work that way. Similar to the <a href="https://thekarend.blogspot.com/2012/11/recent-notd-sally-hansen-salon-insta.html">Sally Hansen Salon Insta Gel Strips</a> but without the hassle of a liquid gel topcoat. I do wonder if they're not good for my nails. I'm back to shorties now because when I took the last set of these strips off my natural nails were in rough shape and I had to file them down. I can't be sure that's the strips' fault, though, as I've battled weak nails and peelies what feels like forever. I'm thinking I may try removing them like gel polish next time—roughing up the surface to break the seal then doing the foil method—rather than popping them off and potentially taking the top layer of my nail surface off with the strips.

Of course I had to try the Sally Hansen fake nails. The brand I have the longest relationship with comes out with a type of product I've been all over in recent years? A few sets were in my shopping cart so fast.
I tried an oval set first, in the solid "creme" color Beet Pray Love.
<div> <br /></div>
<a href="//www.aniploish.com/images/2023/04/shpm_01.jpg"><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 600px; height: px;" src="//www.aniploish.com/images/2023/04/shpm_01_sized.jpg" border="0" alt="Sally Hansen Perfect Manicure fake nails" id="" /></a>
<br />
These come with both glue and adhesive tabs. I used the tabs. The fit was good for me. The base curve and the c-curve of these matched my natural nails fairly well, and the length was long enough to cover my natural nails in the length I like to keep them without being so long that I felt the need to clip and file them.
<div> <br /></div>
<a href="//www.aniploish.com/images/2023/04/shpm_02.jpg"><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 600px; height: px;" src="//www.aniploish.com/images/2023/04/shpm_02_sized.jpg" border="0" alt="Sally Hansen Perfect Manicure fake nails" id="" /></a>
<br />
That first set held up nicely, and I didn't have any more pop-offs than with any other brand, so I tried another oval set next: Ombre-lievable, which is a gradient French mani look. Again, I used the adhesive tabs.
<div> <br /></div>
<a href="//www.aniploish.com/images/2023/04/shpm_03.JPG"><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 600px; height: px;" src="//www.aniploish.com/images/2023/04/shpm_03_sized.JPG" border="0" alt="Sally Hansen Perfect Manicure fake nails" id="" /></a>
<br />
These did not hold up well. Three days after I'd put them on, the white on the tips was wearing off and looked bad. I took them off days before I'd planned to.
<div> <br /></div>
<a href="//www.aniploish.com/images/2023/04/shpm_04.JPG"><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 600px; height: px;" src="//www.aniploish.com/images/2023/04/shpm_04_sized.JPG" border="0" alt="Sally Hansen Perfect Manicure fake nails" id="" /></a>
<br />
More recently, I tried a square set, What a Star, which has dusty rose stars scattered on a pale pinky peach base color.
<div> <br /></div>
<a href="//www.aniploish.com/images/2023/04/shpm_05.JPG"><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 600px; height: px;" src="//www.aniploish.com/images/2023/04/shpm_05_sized.JPG" border="0" alt="Sally Hansen Perfect Manicure fake nails" id="" /></a>
<br />
These did not fit my nails nearly as well as the ovals. The length was too short in most cases (and my nails are not long right now), leaving a gap at the base (yes, I could have filed my natural nails down, but I didn't want to lose that length. The base was too square and wide to fit the curve at my base. These are very square indeed.
<div> <br /></div>
<a href="//www.aniploish.com/images/2023/04/shpm_06.JPG"><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 600px; height: px;" src="//www.aniploish.com/images/2023/04/shpm_06_sized.JPG" border="0" alt="Sally Hansen Perfect Manicure fake nails" id="" /></a>
<br />
I haven't tried the coffin or almond shapes yet, but plan to when I come across them again. I won't do the squares again; those just aren't a good fit for me. Today it's silver chromes, mostly. It's hard to know where the line is between some types of finishes, so there are some on this wheel that are more shimmers than chromes, and some that could better be called metallic than chrome, and even a weaksauce holo (though I don't know that weaksauce holo is an officially recognized nail polish finish). I just need to keep chanting "finished is better than perfect" as I continue to work on this massive project of getting all the colors in my stash onto nail wheels.

Combine those with the ones I spotted closer to home before and after my trip, and we've got ourselves a display post. (My last one was the <a href="https://thekarend.blogspot.com/2023/02/displays-dump-hiatus.html">day before</a> I went on my latest blogging hiatus.)(And yes, I did mean to get this up last week, but I decided not to stress myself out about that.)
I was rather overwhelmed by the Claire's I went to in Wisconsin ... so much stuff in so small a space. Nothing jumped out at me from the polish rack, but I did stop to look at the fake nails. The sign on top of the display unit said they were new "100% vegan faux nails". I don't think that means they're plant-based, just that there aren't any animal products in them. I didn't buy any since they were all longer than I prefer (though could be cut down I'm sure) and were all glue ons when I prefer press on (and yes I do have some sets of press on tabs I can use with glue ons but I have so many sets of fakes already).
<div> <br /></div>
<a href="//www.aniploish.com/images/2023/04/d11_11.jpg"><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 600px; height: px;" src="//www.aniploish.com/images/2023/04/d11_11_sized.jpg" border="0" alt="" id="" /></a>
<br />
I also paused at the sets for Claire's caviar nails and velvet nails. I thought these trends were well behind us for a while, but here they are, back again. Life comes at you fast, I guess.
<div> <br /></div>
<a href="//www.aniploish.com/images/2023/04/d11_12.jpg"><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 600px; height: px;" src="//www.aniploish.com/images/2023/04/d11_12_sized.jpg" border="0" alt="" id="" /></a>
<br />
I saw something fun at Fred Meyer: a set of Crayola glitter polishes in bottles with pointy caps to look like the ends of crayons. I thought these were super cute, but did not buy them because I know based on past experience that I wouldn't reach for them, I just want to look at the pretty colors. And I can do that with this photo.
<div> <br /></div>
<a href="//www.aniploish.com/images/2023/04/d11_07.JPG"><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 600px; height: px;" src="//www.aniploish.com/images/2023/04/d11_07_sized.JPG" border="0" alt="" id="" /></a>
<br />
I feel like I should have seen Ulta Essie (Un)guilty Pleasures for Winter 2022 earlier than I did, but here it is now. The display at Ulta . In front, left to right: Caught in the Rain (times 2), To Me from Me (times 2), (Un)guilty Pleasures (times 2), and Snooze In. In back at the top: No To-Do, Home By 8.
<div> <br /></div>
<a href="//www.aniploish.com/images/2023/04/d11_14.JPG"><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 600px; height: px;" src="//www.aniploish.com/images/2023/04/d11_14_sized.JPG" border="0" alt="" id="" /></a>
<br />
The display at Meijer (same as the one I also saw at Fred Meyer) had the same shades, but only five of them were featured on the card next to them.
<div> <br /></div>
<a href="//www.aniploish.com/images/2023/04/d11_15.JPG"><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 600px; height: px;" src="//www.aniploish.com/images/2023/04/d11_15_sized.JPG" border="0" alt="" id="" /></a>
<br />
For Valentines 2023, Essie put out the U Wish collection, which I saw at Ulta. Six shades here, all with silver flames/hearts on the caps. In front: U Wish (two slots), License to Thrill (two slots), Burning Love (two slots), Flirt with Freedom. In back: Fuel Your Desire (two slots), No Ex-pectations (two slots).
<div> <br /></div>
<a href="//www.aniploish.com/images/2023/04/d11_16.JPG"><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 600px; height: px;" src="//www.aniploish.com/images/2023/04/d11_16_sized.JPG" border="0" alt="" id="" /></a>
<br />
The Essie Spring 2023 collection is Feel the Fizzle. I found it first at Walgreens, then later at Ulta in a slightly different shelf top display. It does look like spring, with all those pretty pastels. Left to right: Ride the Soundwave, Feel the Fizzle (the only non-creme in the collection; looks like a fun topper), Don't Burst My Bubble, In the You-niverse, It's High Time, and You're Scent-sational.
<div> <br /></div>
<a href="//www.aniploish.com/images/2023/04/d11_06.JPG"><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 600px; height: px;" src="//www.aniploish.com/images/2023/04/d11_06_sized.JPG" border="0" alt="" id="" /></a>
<br />
A closer look at Feel the Fizzle, which I was sorely tempted to buy even though I'm 99% certain I have something very similar in my collection already.
<div> <br /></div>
<a href="//www.aniploish.com/images/2023/04/d11_10.JPG"><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 600px; height: px;" src="//www.aniploish.com/images/2023/04/d11_10_sized.JPG" border="0" alt="" id="" /></a>
<br />
At Ulta, I also saw some new shades in the Essie Gel Couture line, the Fashion Fête collection. Left to right: Hats Off, Fashion Fête, Sundressed to Impress, Brimming with Bubbly, Stilettos on Standby, and Sunday Best.
<div> <br /></div>
<a href="//www.aniploish.com/images/2023/04/d11_17.JPG"><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 600px; height: px;" src="//www.aniploish.com/images/2023/04/d11_17_sized.JPG" border="0" alt="" id="" /></a>
<br />
At a Five Below, I saw four shades of Fresh Paint pearly shimmers in a tray with slots for three colors. No display card to tell me if these are a collection and if so what it's called: Hole-some Content, Glazed and Confused, Donut Stop Believing, and Seriously Dough. Maybe a Glazed Donut collection?
<div> <br /></div>
<a href="//www.aniploish.com/images/2023/04/d11_30.JPG"><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 600px; height: px;" src="//www.aniploish.com/images/2023/04/d11_30_sized.JPG" border="0" alt="" id="" /></a>
<br />
Walgreens had some fancy Kiss Majestic nail sets I'd not seen before. The set on top is called Lovely Bubbly and the one on the bottom is Your Grace. The package says they're reusable up to three times, which I guess takes a bit of the sting out of the $17.99 price tag if that's true.
<div> <br /></div>
<a href="//www.aniploish.com/images/2023/04/d11_03.JPG"><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 600px; height: px;" src="//www.aniploish.com/images/2023/04/d11_03_sized.JPG" border="0" alt="" id="" /></a>
<br />
One of the Ultas I visited had a section with the Nailtopia polishes celebrating Disney 100. Not sure it they were still in the process of stocking it or many had already sold out; I'm guessing the former since popular characters were still there. Here are the full size ones (12ml): Mickey Mouse, Minnie Mouse, Donald Duck, (empty spot for Daisy Duck), Pluto, Goofy, Peter Pan, and Tinker Bell (not Tinkerbell). There was an empty section next to this with spots for the minis (5ml) Winnie the Pooh (yellow), Piglet (darker pink), Elsa (lighter pink), Olaf (light blue), Anna (wine), Alice in Wonderland (light blue), Cheshire (purple), Simba (golden yellow), Dumbo (silver), and Stitch (blue).
<div> <br /></div>
<a href="//www.aniploish.com/images/2023/04/d11_23.JPG"><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 600px; height: px;" src="//www.aniploish.com/images/2023/04/d11_23_sized.JPG" border="0" alt="" id="" /></a>
<br />
I know I've mentioned it before, but it's still true: I pay was less attention to OPI releases since Ulta starting putting them only in the big white aisle unit. I want standalone displays that show what's in the collection and only that. But I'm not going to get that at Ulta, so here's OPI Me Myself and OPI for spring 2023 in all its backlit, shelved right next to core colors glory.
<div> <br /></div>
<a href="//www.aniploish.com/images/2023/04/d11_18.JPG"><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 600px; height: px;" src="//www.aniploish.com/images/2023/04/d11_18_sized.JPG" border="0" alt="" id="" /></a>
<br />
Also in the backlit display at Ulta: some Orly polishes labelled "colors that pop exclusively at Ulta": Connect the Dots, Kitsch You Later, Claim to Fame, Ceci N'est Pas Blanc, Ephemeral (sold out), Touch of Magic, and Just an Illusion.
<div> <br /></div>
<a href="//www.aniploish.com/images/2023/04/d11_19.JPG"><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 600px; height: px;" src="//www.aniploish.com/images/2023/04/d11_19_sized.JPG" border="0" alt="" id="" /></a>
<br />
Ulta also had the Orly NASA collection, thank goodness in much better lighting on an endcap. There are four polishes and four nail strip designs featuring photos from the space telescope with an <a href="https://www.scientificamerican.com/article/nasa-needs-to-rename-the-james-webb-space-telescope/">unfortunate name</a>. The display says "only here", but I've since seen these polishes on the Orly website.
<div> <br /></div>
<a href="//www.aniploish.com/images/2023/04/d11_20.JPG"><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 600px; height: px;" src="//www.aniploish.com/images/2023/04/d11_20_sized.JPG" border="0" alt="" id="" /></a>
<br />
The polishes: Spirit of Peace, Golden Record, View from L2, Perseverance.

<br />
The nail strips: Hubble Space Telescope, (the other space telescope), Voyager, Artemis I.

<a href="//www.aniploish.com/images/2023/04/d11_22.JPG"><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 600px; height: px;" src="//www.aniploish.com/images/2023/04/d11_22_sized.JPG" border="0" alt="" id="" /></a>
<br />
I'm not 100% sure the spring-like shades of Poparazzi I saw at CVS in the spot where seasonal shades have been before are new, but I snapped their photo anyway. Left to right: Mermaid Daze, Born Like This, Do You Pink About Me, and Vitamin Sea.
<div> <br /></div>
<a href="//www.aniploish.com/images/2023/04/d11_13.JPG"><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 600px; height: px;" src="//www.aniploish.com/images/2023/04/d11_13_sized.JPG" border="0" alt="" id="" /></a>
<br />
The one not too picked over Pretty Woman display I saw at Five Below stores on my trip was called Dramatic Darks. The shade names printed on the display are Forbidden, Firefly, Oh I Say, Ravenous, Deep Winter, and Dark Royalty. Only five of the six were there and I'm not sure if the shades match the names or not (they weren't printed on the bottles and I can't find them on either the Pretty Woman website or Five Below's).
<div> <br /></div>
<a href="//www.aniploish.com/images/2023/04/d11_31.JPG"><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 600px; height: px;" src="//www.aniploish.com/images/2023/04/d11_31_sized.JPG" border="0" alt="" id="" /></a>
<br />
In my last display post, I shared the first sets of Sally Hansen Salon Effects Perfect Manicure fake nails I'd seen. There were only two shapes: square and oval. A few days after I'd posted those, I spotted some sets in almond and coffin shapes on a mixed brand display near the front of a Walgreens. Left to right: Needing Space (almond), Meet Me in the Metal (coffin), ASAP Apple (almond; solid color though the pic looks different due to reflections I think). I peeked on the Sally Hansen site and there are other designs/colors available in these shapes; I just haven't seen them in person yet.
<div> <br /></div>
<a href="//www.aniploish.com/images/2023/04/d11_01.JPG"><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 600px; height: px;" src="//www.aniploish.com/images/2023/04/d11_01_sized.JPG" border="0" alt="" id="" /></a>
<br />
Deeper into that same Walgreens, I saw more Sally Hansen Perfect Manicure sets nestled in their own section on the core display wall. All of these designs were either square or oval. Top row (square): Get Mod, Pink Clay, Sugar Fix, Block Party, What a Star, Check Please. Bottom row (oval): Buff & Tumble, O-zone You Didn't, Beet Pray Love, Ombre-lievable, Swoop There It Is, Outside the Line.
<div> <br /></div>
<a href="//www.aniploish.com/images/2023/04/d11_02.JPG"><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 600px; height: px;" src="//www.aniploish.com/images/2023/04/d11_02_sized.JPG" border="0" alt="" id="" /></a>
<br />
At a different Walgreens, I saw a display with the Sally Hansen Perfect Manicure nails plus some new Insta Dri shades and some Good Kind Pure shades. The nails were mostly the oval and square shapes, with a couple of almond ones mixed in. Based on an empty display section I saw at Ulta, I believe the Insta Dri shades are the Getaway collection: Catch Me If You Clam (orange), Beach You To It (darker orange), Traveling Light (orchid, slot taken here by another shade), Up In the Clouds (light blue), Slow M-ocean (slate blue), Mint Me in St. Louis (turqoise), C-hill Out (dark green), Later Alligator (deep olive green). I'm not sure if the Good Kind Pure shades are a collection or not. My detail photos are fuzzy, but I think these are the shade names based on matching up the blurry text in my photos with the Sally Hansen website: Almond Milk, Cashew Butter, Roasted Chestnut, Sweet As Sugar, Carrot Cake, Natural Red, Blueberry Tart, Matcha Love.
<div> <br /></div>
<a href="//www.aniploish.com/images/2023/04/d11_25.JPG"><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 600px; height: px;" src="//www.aniploish.com/images/2023/04/d11_25_sized.JPG" border="0" alt="" id="" /></a>
<br />
At Walmart, I saw an endcap with the Sally Hansen Perfect Manicure nails and Miracle Gel polishes, with an extra InstaDri bit that I wasn't sure belonged there. The nails assortment had all four shapes.
<div> <br /></div>
<a href="//www.aniploish.com/images/2023/04/d11_26.JPG"><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 600px; height: px;" src="//www.aniploish.com/images/2023/04/d11_26_sized.JPG" border="0" alt="" id="" /></a>
<br />
The top two rows of Miracle Gel polishes had shades from the Desert Oasis collection, which I only know the name of because it was on the insert section of the core display at an Ulta store (all but two of the shades were sold out or not yet stocked there). Top row: Lookin Fly for a Cacti, Been There Dune That, A Hot Minute, I Don't Desert You, Cactus Makes Perfect. Bottom row: Knowledge is Flower, Desert Reign, Oaseas, Sun-Shower (not part of Desert Oasis), (random yellow in slot for Shock & Mauve, niehter part of Desert Oasis). The other rows were core colors, base and top coat.
<div> <br /></div>
<a href="//www.aniploish.com/images/2023/04/d11_27.JPG"><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 600px; height: px;" src="//www.aniploish.com/images/2023/04/d11_27_sized.JPG" border="0" alt="" id="" /></a>
<br />
The InstaDri tray had a few core colors along with the Getaway collection of new shades (that portion shown closer below): Catch Me If You Clam, Beach You To It, Traveling Light (slot empty), Up In the Clouds, Slow M-ocean, Mint Me in St. Louis, C-hill Out, Later Alligator.
<div> <br /></div>
<a href="//www.aniploish.com/images/2023/04/d11_28.JPG"><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 600px; height: px;" src="//www.aniploish.com/images/2023/04/d11_28_sized.JPG" border="0" alt="" id="" /></a>
<br />
A different Walmart had the Sally Hansen Perfect Manicure nails incorporated into the regular nail supplies section, including more of the coffin shaped ones than I'd seen before. Left to right: French Twist, Leaf Me Be, What the Shell, Meet Me in the Metal, Hyp-nautical, Onyx-pected (hiding in back).
<div> <br /></div>
<a href="//www.aniploish.com/images/2023/04/d11_29.JPG"><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 600px; height: px;" src="//www.aniploish.com/images/2023/04/d11_29_sized.JPG" border="0" alt="" id="" /></a>
<br />
For Easter, Sally Hansen Insta Dri has a Peeps collaboration. I saw this tall freestanding display at Walgreens. It had the Peeps polishes plus some core colors. The Peeps solid colors are textured, specifically "sugar texture".
<div> <br /></div>
<a href="//www.aniploish.com/images/2023/04/d11_04.jpg"><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 600px; height: px;" src="//www.aniploish.com/images/2023/04/d11_04_sized.jpg" border="0" alt="" id="" /></a>
<br />
Top left: Peeps and Love set with Peeps Pink Bunny and Peeps Blue Chick. Top right: One Tough Chick set with Peeps Classic Chick and Peeps Cotton Candy. Bottom left: Peeps Purple Bunny, Peeps Party Cake (times 2), Peeps Cotton Candy, and Peeps Marshmallow. Bottom right: Peeps Classic Chick (times 2), Peeps Pink Bunny (times 2), and Peeps Blue Chick.

And here are the polishes that got me excited about polish in a way I haven't been in a while: the Salon Perfect Flash collection at Walmart. These are seven reflective glitters and when I saw swatches on Facebook I had to have them. Yes, indies have been doing reflective glitter for a while, but it's so hard to keep up with indies now that I've stopped trying. These mainstreams aren't as complex as most of the indies but they're way more accessible (though I did have to try a few Walmarts before I found them). Left to right: Flashing Lights, News Flash, Dream Gleam, Flash Dance, Make It Flashy, Shine and Dandy, Flash Back. There's also a texture smoothing topcoat called Glitter Gloss. Unlike most polishes I buy and then let sit for ages before I try them, my first pedicure after I bought these was Shine and Dandy, and Make It Flashy is on my toes as I type this. Even though it's winter, I often wear sandals in the house and seeing these polishes catch the light has been quite delightful.

<br />
Like <a href="https://thekarend.blogspot.com/2022/06/road-trip-displays.html">last summer</a>, I didn't see any seasonal Studio M displays at Meijer on my trip, but there were more "fancies" at the $6.49 price point than I saw back then. I think these are all holos.
Left to right (two slots for each color): Constellation Queen, Worlds Apart, Miss Universe, Super Star.

<br />
Ski season ended yesterday, and I've got a few weeks before I have any significant travel planned, so I'm hoping to do some swatching in this less busy lull, but we'll see if that works out.

So I was going to just edit the post and add it, but got distracted (no surprise there). Then on Saturday, I had something unexpected happen to the strips so here I am with a two-photo update.
First, the strips in the sun on a recent still wintery but not so cold I needed full gloves day. I liked the sparkle and glow a lot.
<div> <br /></div>
<a href="//www.aniploish.com/images/2023/04/ddgs_08.jpg"><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 600px; height: px;" src="//www.aniploish.com/images/2023/04/ddgs_08_s.jpg" border="0" alt="Dashing Diva Gloss Gel Nail Strips in Gleam Queen" id="" /></a>
<br />
Then Saturday I was a party at some friends' place. Helping to clean up, I used a disinfecting wipe from a container they had. Didn't think anything of it until I noticed the tips of my strips had turned dark. Guess the chemicals in the wipes weren't compatible with the chemicals in the strips. Good to know.
<div> <br /></div>
<a href="//www.aniploish.com/images/2023/04/ddgs_09.jpg"><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 600px; height: px;" src="//www.aniploish.com/images/2023/04/ddgs_09_s.jpg" border="0" alt="Dashing Diva Gloss Gel Nail Strips in Gleam Queen" id="" /></a>
<br />
Given how ratty they were looking, I removed the strips yesterday. As per the instructions, I used a bit of oil on my nails and then peeled them off. They all came off cleanly in one piece each and my nails didn't seem to have suffered any damage. I will probably use the Dashing Diva strips again, though I will probably try putting down a ridge filling base coat first. I can buy the strips at Fred Meyer, so that's convenient, though they just had a few designs the last time I was there. Maybe supply chain issues from the pandemic still.KarenDhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/05022790587742613590noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6157275137491945725.post-45188238403369800102023-03-31T10:07:00.001-07:002023-03-31T10:07:14.223-07:00Dashing Diva Gloss Gel Nail StripsWell hello. I had a good break from nail blogging. I've still been paying attention to a couple of polish groups on Facebook and looking for displays when I have the opportunity. Last month, I saw a mainstream collection that inspired me to not just photograph it, but buy all the colors and I've used two of them already (on my toes, so won't be sharing those here because that's a whole thing). I hope to at least get a display post with those in it up next week. Now, though, Ij ust couldn't let all of March go by without posting something, so here I am with the first nail look I've done in ages that didn't involve press on fake nails (not that there's anything wrong with fake nails).<br>
<br />
Late last week I found a set of Dashing Diva Gloss Gel Nail Strips when I was looking for a new set of fake nails to put on (yes, the organization of my nail stuff is an ongoing issue). I'd had a few too many nails pop off from set I was wearing so thought why not try the strips. Those aren't going to end up on the floor of someone else's house the way my fake nails had the other week (twice at the same party, even). I put them on late at night at home, so please forgive the wonky lighting in these next several pics. This set is called Gleam Queen and has mostly lilac creme strips, with three different accent options: purpley pink microglitter, silver microglitter, and lilac and pink "stained glass" with white leading.
<div> <br /></div>
<a href="//www.aniploish.com/images/2023/03/ddgs_01.JPG"><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 600px; height: px;" src="//www.aniploish.com/images/2023/03/ddgs_01_s.JPG" border="0" alt="Dashing Diva Gloss Gel Nail Strips in Gleam Queen" id="" /></a>
<br />
The directions for applying these are similar to my beloved and long discontinued Sally Hansen Salon Effects nail polish strips: prep the nail, choose a size, smooth from base to tip when applying, file off excess. Removal is different: these can be peeled off rather than needing nail polish remover.
<div> <br /></div>
<a href="//www.aniploish.com/images/2023/03/ddgs_02.JPG"><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 600px; height: px;" src="//www.aniploish.com/images/2023/03/ddgs_02_s.JPG" border="0" alt="Dashing Diva Gloss Gel Nail Strips in Gleam Queen" id="" /></a>
<br />
I did lilac on most of my nails, with silver glitter as an accent on my ring finger. In comparison to the nail polish strips, these are thicker, feeling sort of rubbery. That's good in that it makes them easier to handle: they don't tear or flop over onto themselves the way the very thin polish strips can. That's bad in that it's harder to smooth them out at the edges (my pronouced C-curve makes that harder) and harder to remove the excess at the tip (forget about the sides ... you can't cut these with the sharp end of manicure stick like you can regular polish strips). You can see some little wrinkles on a couple of my nails and some fuzziness at the ends where I had trouble filing them smoooth. The set does come with a fairly good sized one-sided file to use, but I still had trouble. The glitter strips were thicker than the plain ones, which meant they looked better since they didn't form those wrinkles at the sides and camoflauged irregularities in my nails better than the plain strips.
<div> <br /></div>
<a href="//www.aniploish.com/images/2023/03/ddgs_03.JPG"><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 600px; height: px;" src="//www.aniploish.com/images/2023/03/ddgs_03_s.JPG" border="0" alt="Dashing Diva Gloss Gel Nail Strips in Gleam Queen" id="" /></a>
<br />
In the light of day the next morning, I wasn't super happy with how the plain strips looked, what with the wrinkles and the showing of every ridge underneath. The ridges aren't so obvious in this photo as they were to the naked eye. I also noticed some "fuzzies" stuck on the ends of some nails, likely clinging to the adhesive on the bits of strips I'd struggled to file off the night before.
<div> <br /></div>
<a href="//www.aniploish.com/images/2023/03/ddgs_04.JPG"><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 600px; height: px;" src="//www.aniploish.com/images/2023/03/ddgs_04_s.JPG" border="0" alt="Dashing Diva Gloss Gel Nail Strips in Gleam Queen" id="" /></a>
<br />
Since I liked the glitter nail, I decided to just put accent strips over the plain strips. Much better.
<div> <br /></div>
<a href="//www.aniploish.com/images/2023/03/ddgs_05.JPG"><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 600px; height: px;" src="//www.aniploish.com/images/2023/03/ddgs_05_s.JPG" border="0" alt="Dashing Diva Gloss Gel Nail Strips in Gleam Queen" id="" /></a>
<br />
There weren't any thumb-sized accent strips, so I just laid one of the stained glass ones down the center, hoping that would distract from the wrinkles at the sides. It looked pretty good, I thought.
<div> <br /></div>
<a href="//www.aniploish.com/images/2023/03/ddgs_06.JPG"><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 600px; height: px;" src="//www.aniploish.com/images/2023/03/ddgs_06_s.JPG" border="0" alt="Dashing Diva Gloss Gel Nail Strips in Gleam Queen" id="" /></a>
<br />
I've now had them on for six days. There's been some slight lifting of the strips at the tips and corners of a few of my nails, perhaps because of the double thickness. The stained glass ones on my middle fingers are showing the most raggedy-ness, probably because I tend to bump those fingers into things more since they're longest.
<div> <br /></div>
<a href="//www.aniploish.com/images/2023/03/ddgs_07.JPG"><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 600px; height: px;" src="//www.aniploish.com/images/2023/03/ddgs_07_s.JPG" border="0" alt="Dashing Diva Gloss Gel Nail Strips in Gleam Queen" id="" /></a>
<br />
I'd use these again, just stick to glitter sets rather than plain ones, or do a ridge filling base coat first, though I don't know how that would affect their sticking power.KarenDhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/05022790587742613590noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6157275137491945725.post-37628307156784763022023-02-07T18:04:00.002-08:002023-02-21T12:38:48.412-08:00Displays Dump & HiatusI'm starting to see spring collections pop up in some of the nail polish groups I'm in on Facebook, which has spurred me to finally clean out my display picture folders and get them posted. Even though they're old news by this point, since it's been almost four months since my previous <a href="https://thekarend.blogspot.com/2022/10/big-display-catch-up.html">display post</a>, getting them up her will make me feel better. I'm not sure when I might have more to share, as when I've gone down to the city recently, I haven't gone display hunting like I used to. The excitement isn't there for me, whether because there are so few new things to find relative to the last golden age of mass market nail polish or something has shifted in my brain, I'm not sure. Probably both. It's not just display hunting that's feeling flat for me lately. Accordingly, after I post this, I'll be taking an intentional break from this blog for at least the rest of February. But right now, let's look at some displays.
China Glaze Eco Glaze is that brand's entry into the "green" nail polish segment. I saw it at Ulta, in the annoying backlit polish island. Top row: Base Coat, Top Coat, Gardenia Dreams, Sweet Petal, Delicate Daisy, Terrain or Shine, Willow Be Mine. Bottom row: Playful Poppy, Stargazer Michy, Botanika, Fleur de Amour, Edgy Veggie, What So Ferny, Violet Breeze.
<div> <br /></div>
<a href="//www.aniploish.com/images/2023/02/d07_02.JPG"><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 600px; height: px;" src="//www.aniploish.com/images/2023/02/d07_02_sized.JPG" border="0" alt="" id="" /></a>
<br />
I snapped a photo of this Essie Gel Couture display at Ulta because it said "new + only here", which I guess must apply to the colors, because the line isn't new. Left to right: Final Fitting, Designer Debut (I believe the bottle of this is one slot to the right; yes, I should have rearranged to clean this up like I used to), Rue de la Ruby (the top bottle in this column), Through the Lens, Berry in Love, Tweed-to-Know, and Top Coat.
<div> <br /></div>
<a href="//www.aniploish.com/images/2023/02/d07_01.JPG"><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 600px; height: px;" src="//www.aniploish.com/images/2023/02/d07_01_sized.JPG" border="0" alt="" id="" /></a>
<br />
I came across some Essies with silver designs printed on the caps at Target. Didn't see a display card, but some Googling leads me to believe these are from Study Tips, a fall 2022 LE collection that was only at Target. Shades left when I saw them: Sharpen Up, Nail the Grade, Homework It, Extra Extra Credit, and Doodle the Minimum. The missing one is Study Tips, a navy blue.
<div> <br /></div>
<a href="//www.aniploish.com/images/2023/02/d07_13.jpg"><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 600px; height: px;" src="//www.aniploish.com/images/2023/02/d07_13_sized.jpg" border="0" alt="" id="" /></a>
<br />
I saw the Essie Winter 2022 collection at Walgreens, tucked on a bottom shelf. Left to right: Head to Mistletoe, Sleigh It, Wrapped in Luxury, Not So Silent Night, Carols & Caviar, Midnight Delight.
<div> <br /></div>
<a href="//www.aniploish.com/images/2023/02/d07_19.JPG"><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 600px; height: px;" src="//www.aniploish.com/images/2023/02/d07_19_sized.JPG" border="0" alt="" id="" /></a>
<br />
The display for that collection at Fred Meyer was more eye catching, but several shades were already sold out.
<div> <br /></div>
<a href="//www.aniploish.com/images/2023/02/d07_20.jpg"><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 600px; height: px;" src="//www.aniploish.com/images/2023/02/d07_20_sized.jpg" border="0" alt="" id="" /></a>
<br />
Ulta had an endcap with Glamnetic fake nails. The brush-on nail glue was intriguing; that seems easier than the dropper that most brands have, but since I am pretty happy with adhesive tabs, I didn't get any to try. The nail sets came in different lengths and shapes: short almond, medium almond, and long coffin. There were some "trend collection" limited edition sets. The sets were $15 to $22 and said they are reusable.
<div> <br /></div>
<a href="//www.aniploish.com/images/2023/02/d07_04.JPG"><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 600px; height: px;" src="//www.aniploish.com/images/2023/02/d07_04_sized.JPG" border="0" alt="" id="" /></a>
<br />
I saw a nearly empty display for the Morgan Taylor Sing 2 collection at Sally Beauty.
<div> <br /></div>
<a href="//www.aniploish.com/images/2023/02/d07_08.jpg"><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 600px; height: px;" src="//www.aniploish.com/images/2023/02/d07_08_sized.jpg" border="0" alt="" id="" /></a>
<br />
The Morgan Taylor I Wanna Dance with Somebody display I saw at Fred Meyer some weeks later was in better shape when I got there than the Sing 2 had been. Shades here: Record Breaker (slot has another shade in front, Record Breaker is the black behind it; I was in a hurry and didn't have time to fix), Blazing Up the Charts, Belt It Out, Signature Sound, Certified Platinum, Command the Stage.
<div> <br /></div>
<a href="//www.aniploish.com/images/2023/02/d07_09.jpg"><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 600px; height: px;" src="//www.aniploish.com/images/2023/02/d07_09_sized.jpg" border="0" alt="" id="" /></a>
<br />
At Sally Beauty, I saw a new to me brand in the core display wall: Nailboo.
<div> <br /></div>
<a href="//www.aniploish.com/images/2023/02/d07_05.JPG"><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 600px; height: px;" src="//www.aniploish.com/images/2023/02/d07_05_sized.JPG" border="0" alt="" id="" /></a>
<br />
<div> <br /></div>
<a href="//www.aniploish.com/images/2023/02/d07_06.JPG"><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 600px; height: px;" src="//www.aniploish.com/images/2023/02/d07_06_sized.JPG" border="0" alt="" id="" /></a>
<br />
I haven't found much new in nail stuff at Walmart in recent months, but one store did have an endcap with Olive & June fake nails, polish, and nail care, so that was something. The polish shades were: Top Coat (two slots), CV, LD, BP, You're Invited, Bold & Unshaken, HS, Pink Goldfish, and HD.
<div> <br /></div>
<a href="//www.aniploish.com/images/2023/02/d07_16.jpg"><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 600px; height: px;" src="//www.aniploish.com/images/2023/02/d07_16_sized.jpg" border="0" alt="" id="" /></a>
<br />
The OPI autumn 2022 collection, Fall Wonders, was very picked over by the time I saw it at Ulta.
<div> <br /></div>
<a href="//www.aniploish.com/images/2023/02/d07_03.JPG"><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 600px; height: px;" src="//www.aniploish.com/images/2023/02/d07_03_sized.JPG" border="0" alt="" id="" /></a>
<br />
I did see several closer to full displays for the OPI 2022 holiday collection, Jewel Be Bold. The first one I spotted was at Sally Beauty. Front row has the glitters: Pop the Baubles, OPI'm a Gem, and I Pink It's Snowing. Middle row: Go Big or Go Chrome, Pearl of Your Dreams (sold out), Tealing Festive, Decked to the Pines, Rhinestone Red-y, Feelin' Berry Glam. Back row: Charmed I'm Sure (sold out), Pink Bling and Be Merry, Merry & Ice, Snow Holding Back, Sleigh Bells Bling (sold out), Bring Out the Big Gems.
<div> <br /></div>
<a href="//www.aniploish.com/images/2023/02/d07_10.jpg"><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 600px; height: px;" src="//www.aniploish.com/images/2023/02/d07_10_sized.jpg" border="0" alt="" id="" /></a>
<br />
Here's how it looked at Ulta:
<div> <br /></div>
<a href="//www.aniploish.com/images/2023/02/d07_11.jpg"><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 600px; height: px;" src="//www.aniploish.com/images/2023/02/d07_11_sized.jpg" border="0" alt="" id="" /></a>
<br />
And finally at Fred Meyer:
<div> <br /></div>
<a href="//www.aniploish.com/images/2023/02/d07_12.jpg"><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 600px; height: px;" src="//www.aniploish.com/images/2023/02/d07_12_sized.jpg" border="0" alt="" id="" /></a>
<br />
Ulta had OPI xPress/On fake nails, both on an end of an aisle and across the aisle from the backlit nail unit.
<div> <br /></div>
<a href="//www.aniploish.com/images/2023/02/d07_14.jpg"><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 600px; height: px;" src="//www.aniploish.com/images/2023/02/d07_14_sized.jpg" border="0" alt="" id="" /></a>
<br />
<div> <br /></div>
<a href="//www.aniploish.com/images/2023/02/d07_15.jpg"><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 600px; height: px;" src="//www.aniploish.com/images/2023/02/d07_15_sized.jpg" border="0" alt="" id="" /></a>
<br />
The Sally Hansen standee display at Walgreens which once held the three Miracle Gel Special Effect Top Coats along with other shades was almost empty when I saw it, but that's okay as the top coats were also stocked in the core display section since they're not limited edition (though of course they won't be around forever so I went ahead and bought them). Toppers are: Unicorn, Crystal, and Sugar.
<div> <br /></div>
<a href="//www.aniploish.com/images/2023/02/d07_07.jpg"><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 600px; height: px;" src="//www.aniploish.com/images/2023/02/d07_07_sized.jpg" border="0" alt="" id="" /></a>
<br />
Sally Hansen put out a Holiday 2022 collection called Merry & Bright. I first saw it at Ulta, tucked above the core display in the drugstore beauty section. Left to right: House is Lit, All is Bright (sold out), Gingerbread Manicure, Can I Get a Watt Watt, Me My Elf & I, It's Electric, Frost Bright, and Shine Bright Like a Menorah.
<div> <br /></div>
<a href="//www.aniploish.com/images/2023/02/d07_17.jpg"><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 600px; height: px;" src="//www.aniploish.com/images/2023/02/d07_17_sized.jpg" border="0" alt="" id="" /></a>
<br />
At Walgreens, it was in a free standing floor display with core shades filling out the space.
<div> <br /></div>
<a href="//www.aniploish.com/images/2023/02/d07_18.JPG"><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 600px; height: px;" src="//www.aniploish.com/images/2023/02/d07_18_sized.JPG" border="0" alt="" id="" /></a>
<br />
My enthusiasm for nail stuff is not entirely gone, as when I came across these Sally Hansen Perfect Manicure fake nails at Fred Meyer, I felt a little thrill. I don't recall every seeing fake nails from the brand before, and I've been paying attention to them for decades. They weren't displayed well here, but I was happy to see them regardless and bought two sets despite there not being a sale. There were only six designs here, with four of those being solid colors. Some were shorter and square and some were longer (similar to imPress medium) with almond/oval tips.

<br />
And that's all the displays I've been saving up. I hope to be back in March refreshed and ready to nail blog again.

Potassium-Rich (yes, the name has a hyphen; no, I do not know why), a mustard yellow creme, and Miami Mami, glitter topper with pastel matte hex glitter in various sizes and colors: yellow, orange, blue, and pink. I did three coats of the creme and topped with one of the glitter on all but my index finger.

Mustard is not one of the most flattering colors on me but I keep buying it because I am drawn to the odd and unusual.KarenDhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/05022790587742613590noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6157275137491945725.post-86751910113145286232023-01-11T13:21:00.000-08:002023-01-11T13:21:04.399-08:00Wheel B16: Glitters from Butter London This episode of Nail Wheel Wednesday is all about Butter London glitters. I don't remember the last time I bought a BL polish. They were always sort of out of the way at Ulta, and I guess I stopped looking after a long while of not seeing anything new. Most of these were unopened; that strip of tape along the side of each bottle keeping the removable cap on made that very clear. What a shame I didn't wear more of these. I mean, I still can, but given how few liquid polish manis I do these days, not sure when that might happen.
Several of these bottles were involved in the great box crash back when I lived in Michigan; I started cleaning them but the lettering was coming off the glass and black color was coming off the caps, so I stopped. The polish inside is still fine.

I saw they were having a sale and went to look and noticed it included the shades from the Holo Jellies collection released this past summer. No better time then for me to share swatches of the bottles I bought a while back, along with two glitter toppers I ordered at the same time. Left to right: Party Animal, As If, Peace Out, Chill Pill, Like Totally, and Dancing Queen.
<div> <br /></div>
<a href="//www.aniploish.com/images/2023/01/orje_01.JPG"><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 600px; height: px;" src="//www.aniploish.com/images/2023/01/orje_01_sized.JPG" border="0" alt="Orly nail polish bottles: Party Animal, As If, Peace Out, Chill Pill, Like Totally, and Dancing Queen." id="" /></a>
<br />
I first Skittled the Holo Jellies, doing three coats plus topcoat. They're not quite opaque at three coats, but close enough. All have a generous helping of silver holo glitter in a jelly base. As If is a soft orange. Peace Out is lime green. Chill Pill is a blue between turquoise and sky. Like Totally is purple, such a pretty purple, not too red and not too blue. I like these; the formula is good, with the jelly base being buildable, not too opaque so it hides the glitter.
<div> <br /></div>
<a href="//www.aniploish.com/images/2023/01/orje_02.JPG"><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 600px; height: px;" src="//www.aniploish.com/images/2023/01/orje_02_sized.JPG" border="0" alt="Manicure with Orly nail polish in As If, Peace Out, Chill Pill, and Like Totally." id="" /></a>
<br />
<div> <br /></div>
<a href="//www.aniploish.com/images/2023/01/orje_03.JPG"><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 600px; height: px;" src="//www.aniploish.com/images/2023/01/orje_03_sized.JPG" border="0" alt="Manicure with Orly nail polish in As If, Peace Out, Chill Pill, and Like Totally." id="" /></a>
<br />
<div> <br /></div>
<a href="//www.aniploish.com/images/2023/01/orje_04.JPG"><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 600px; height: px;" src="//www.aniploish.com/images/2023/01/orje_04_sized.JPG" border="0" alt="Manicure with Orly nail polish in As If, Peace Out, Chill Pill, and Like Totally." id="" /></a>
<br />
I then reached for the glitter toppers, grouping them each with the Holo Jellies shade(s) they were most compatible with. Party Animal has pink, orange, and yellow matte hex glitter in various sizes plus silver holo microglitter in a clear base. I layered one coat of it over As If, finishing with clear topcoat.
<div> <br /></div>
<a href="//www.aniploish.com/images/2023/01/orje_05.JPG"><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 600px; height: px;" src="//www.aniploish.com/images/2023/01/orje_05_sized.JPG" border="0" alt="Manicure with Orly nail polish in As If and Party Animal" id="" /></a>
<br />
<div> <br /></div>
<a href="//www.aniploish.com/images/2023/01/orje_06.JPG"><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 600px; height: px;" src="//www.aniploish.com/images/2023/01/orje_06_sized.JPG" border="0" alt="Manicure with Orly nail polish in As If and Party Animal" id="" /></a>
<br />
<div> <br /></div>
<a href="//www.aniploish.com/images/2023/01/orje_07.JPG"><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 600px; height: px;" src="//www.aniploish.com/images/2023/01/orje_07_sized.JPG" border="0" alt="Manicure with Orly nail polish in As If and Party Animal" id="" /></a>
<br />
Dancing Queen has lime, purple, and sky blue matte hex glitter plus silver holo microglitter in a clear base. It seems made for the remaining shades of Holo Jellies. I did a gradient over a creme base that matched my skintone, then Peace Out on my middle finger, Chill Pill on my ring, and Like Totally on my pinky, topping the three non-gradient nails with one coat of Dancing Queen plus clear topcoat. This whole look made me happy. I really should take the time to do manis like this again because they do make me smile.
<div> <br /></div>
<a href="//www.aniploish.com/images/2023/01/orje_08.JPG"><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 600px; height: px;" src="//www.aniploish.com/images/2023/01/orje_08_sized.JPG" border="0" alt="Manicure with Orly nail polish in Peace Out, Chill Pill, and Like Totally topped with Dancing Queen" id="" /></a>
<br />
<div> <br /></div>
<a href="//www.aniploish.com/images/2023/01/orje_09.JPG"><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 600px; height: px;" src="//www.aniploish.com/images/2023/01/orje_09_sized.JPG" border="0" alt="Manicure with Orly nail polish in Peace Out, Chill Pill, and Like Totally topped with Dancing Queen" id="" /></a>
<br />
<div> <br /></div>
<a href="//www.aniploish.com/images/2023/01/orje_10.JPG"><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 600px; height: px;" src="//www.aniploish.com/images/2023/01/orje_10_sized.JPG" border="0" alt="Manicure with Orly nail polish in Peace Out, Chill Pill, and Like Totally topped with Dancing Queen" id="" /></a>
<br />
I don't regret getting these at all despite having more polish than probably all the nail salons in town put together. They're mood lifters for me. And I'm proud of myself for resisting the plain jellies that Orly came out with sometime after Holo Jellies. Maybe I don't have exactly those shades of blue, pink, and yellow in exactly that consistency, but I do have blue, pink, and yellow jellies in my stash. If you don't, those are also in the sale going on now on the <a href="https://orlybeauty.com/collections/jelly-collection">Orly website</a>. Five dollars a bottle is a deal. Dancing Queen and Party Animal are available still at full price. I'd pay it because I'm a fool for glitter still, even though the nail world has mostly moved on to other things for now.

I'm using "shimmer" broadly here; some might be more precisely called metallic or foil or chrome, but if I take the time to sort that finely, I'll never get all my polishes on wheels. And I still very much want to accomplish that.
