Might As Well Be Happy/Earthy

When I was out running errands last Saturday morning, I came upon a new nail polish display in my Meijer store (for the record, I suppose I should mention that none of my errands actually required me to go to Meijer) with mood polishes from Blue Cross (the people who bring us the snowmen and pumpkin and other holiday polishes). Of course I got a few and was so interested to see them in action that I put one on that very day. They don't have names, so I shall call this one Five, after the last two numbers in its UPC.

Here is it just after I put it on. The room was fairly warm, as I was not running the air conditioner in an attempt to be environmentally conscious (and save money—I'm no saint), so I only saw the cool/bottle color on my whole nail for a few seconds as I applied it, then it morphed into the Faux Funky French look. Once I'd gotten three coats of it on, I realized it would have been much better over white, like a neon, which it pretty much is, complete with the drying matte feature. I used my usual Sally Hansen Insta Dri top coat over this, and it affected the color changing not at all.

Blue Cross Mood Struck

Here it is after I ran my hand under cool water then raced back to my lightbox to take pictures before it got warm again; as you see, this was only partly successful, as I still don't have all green.

I did have a great deal of fun watching my nails change as I shopped for groceries later that day, seeing more green appear as I made my way through refrigerated and frozen foods aisles.

It stayed warm all weekend, so most of the time my nails were mostly tennis ball yellow.

I didn't take time to do a comparison, but this polish reminds me so much of Claire's Mood Polish Happy/Earthy that I wouldn't be at all surprised to find out that Blue Cross makes Claire's stuff for her. If you haven't seen Happy/Earthy, have a look at Nihrida's post; this polish is very close, don't you think?

I had such fun wearing this that I went back and got more colors, but that's a post for another day.

  11. Amy,

I only had this one on for about a day and a half; no problems with wear in that short time, but I am wearing another of them for my mani this week so will have a report on that probably this weekend.

  12. ok, don't quote me on this, but I read this somewhere... there are inks that change with heat, and these inks are what are used in mood polishes.. so if all the companies are using the same ink, the colors will be dupes of each other...
    I dunno... :S
