More on Blogger Comments

Blogger forced me into the new interface a couple days ago. I didn't like it when it was in preview mode, and I don't like it now, but I'll adjust. One thing that has improved since I looked at it when I wrote about blog comments in February is that I am able to find the option to turn off word verification. To do this in the new interface:

1. Get to a page that has options listed along the left side of the page. I'm not sure if this is still called the dashboard or not.

2. Click on Settings.

3. Click on Posts & Comments.

4. Look for the dropdown labeled "Show word verification" and select "No". (As of a week or so ago, this was defaulting to yes regardless of whether you'd already turned it off, but they seem to have fixed that bug.)

5. Click Save Settings button in upper right.

And I do still urge you to consider turning off word verification. It hasn't been getting any easier for me to decipher the wonky images, for sure. When confronted with them, sometimes I just click away and don't bother. Sometimes I persevere, and if I'm feeling especially energetic will add something to my comment about turning off the option. I know that some bloggers who have it on aren't doing that to vex me but just don't realize it's on, because Blogger won't make you do it on your own blog.  So if you ever come here and find it's on, be sure to let me know!

  1. I feel like I'm reading another language...& don't even get me started on trying to decipher them on my phone!

  2. I switched my captchas off. They are getting harder and harder to read! I never used to care that much but they have actually put me off leaving comments now.

    Thank Karen!

  4. I read somewhere that the captchas don't even stop the spamming. But I agree with the rest, they are getting longer and way too hard to figure out.

  5. I totally agree with removing the capchas. I don't have any and I never get spam. In general, sadly, I sometimes navigate away too. I love leaving comments but those slow me down so much. I think everyone would benefit if we turned them off and bloggers would probably get many more comments.

  6. You were the one who let me know that it was on for mine! I had no idea and I thank you much for notifying me to turn it off :) Luckily Blogger still allows you to moderate comments and I just delete whatever spam I come across.

  7. You can switch back to the old blogger by clicking on the circle thing top right of your dashboard. A drop down box will appear and there's a choice of old blogger interface. Click that and you're good. I've already gone back. I hate the new but not before it deleted my post from today. So I'm left with a title and a bunch of comments. Nice right? Let me know if this works for you!

    1. I've decided to just tough it out with the new interface, since at some point they'll just force me over again.

Thank you for reading and commenting! I greatly appreciate knowing I'm not just talking to myself here. :) I'm moderating most comments now due to the spate of spammers who claim to be looking for sexy times.
