Zoya Stunning Collection Swatches and Comparisons

Zoya has released three new sets of polishes in bright colors for summer 2013 and was kind enough to send them all for review. There's Stunning, six cremes and subtle shimmers, Irresistible, six foil shimmers, and PixieDust Summer Edition, six matte glitters—so many colors I couldn't fit them into my light box at the same time.

In this post, I'm going to focus on Stunning. You can probably see the bottle shot below which ones are the subtle shimmers:

Left to right above: Darcy, Thandie, Micky, Yana, Rocky, Josie.

I paired up Darcy, the yellow, with Thandie, the orange. These are colors right out of a box of crayons, very saturated and bright. Both are subtle shimmers—so subtle that Zoya lists them as creams on the Zoya website. I used three coats of each, though Thandie could probably have been just two.

In low light, the shimmer peeks out:

Because the Stunning shades coordinate so nicely with the ones from Irresistible, I couldn't resist adding funky French tips; here's Kerry on the Darcy accent nail and Amy on Thandie.

I swatched Micky, the coral pink, with an accent nail of Yana, the pinkish red. These have the same subtle shimmer finish as Darcy and Thandie, and like those, I used three coats of each.

Here's the low light shimmer shot:

And with foil funky French tips—Tinsley on Micky and Bobbi on Yana:

The last couple from Stunning are Rocky, a turquoise-leaning blue, and Josie, a warm-leaning green. Both of these are true creams; I couldn't detect any shimmer in them at all. They were also both two coaters.

For their funky French treatment, Rocky got Hazel and Josie got Rikki:

Because I'm sometimes not good at putting things away, I had some polishes close at hand to do some quick comparisons when I was done swatching the Zoyas. Given that my stash skews away from yellows and oranges, I didn't have any of those sitting around in my dining room (thank goodness we have a kitchen in the table to actually eat at). I did find some colors to compare to the other shades, though. I didn't go on a dupe hunt, just grabbed the closest colors from the ones I had been playing with recently.

Left to right below: Zoya Micky, Essie Come Here (from Resort 2013), Zoya Yana. As you can see, the Essie is more orange than either of these Zoyas.

I compared Josie to Essie Mojito Madness and First Timer, the former from last summer and the latter in stores now with Resort 2013. Left to right below: Mojito Madness, Josie, First Timer. Obviously First Timer is the outlier here; it's much lighter and cooler-toned than the other two. Mojito Madness is similar in value to Josie, but Josie is definitely warmer.

For Rocky's comparison, I grabbed Essie In the Cabana (also from Resort 2013) and L'Oreal Not a Cloud in Sight (from the recent seasonal Trendsetter release). Left to right below: In the Cabana, Rocky, Not a Cloud in Sight. Both the Essie and the L'Oreal are more turquoise than the Zoya, with the L'Oreal being the most green-leaning.

I am hoping to squeeze in a post with the Irresistible collection before Texture Week starts, and of course the PixieDust Summer Edition will be part of the texture-palooza.

The Zoya Earth Day promo runs through today—did you put any of these Stunning shades in your Earth Day order?

The polishes shown in this entry were provided free for review purposes. The content of the entry was not dictated by the provider.

  4. I like the "subtle shimmer" thing (reminds me of Dior latest shades)...A nice collection overall (especially if you don't own already 999 creme polishes).

  5. The funky french nails look great and thank you for the comparsions! I have Essie First Timer and was considering Josie, now at least I know they are not similar :)

Thank you for reading and commenting! I greatly appreciate knowing I'm not just talking to myself here. :) I'm moderating most comments now due to the spate of spammers who claim to be looking for sexy times.
