Barielle New York Style Collection

Barielle recently sent their New York Style Collection box set for review. These were originally released for Fall 2012, I think, but because Barielle keeps their seasonal colors available longer than a lot of brands, the set is still on the Barielle website. It retails for $25, so $5 per full size bottle, which is pretty reasonable. The colors here are Big Apple Red, Central Park, Soho at Night, Fifth Avenue Boutique, and Greenwich Village. (You may recall I used a couple of these for comparisons earlier this week.)

Fifth Avenue Boutique is a coral creme; I combined it with an accent of Big Apple Red, a red creme. Both of them were two coats, though Central Park was a more opaque formula, and I might have been able to get by with one coat of it if I'd done it a touch thicker than my usual first coat. I've seen swatches of Fifth Avenue Boutique looking more orange-leaning, but on me it definitely pulls to the pink side of coral. Big Apple Red is just a classic red—not too bright, not too dark.

Greenwich Village at Dawn is a dusty pink with an intriguing greenish shimmer.

The shimmer is rather shy on the nail, unfortunately; on me this reads pretty much as a mauve creme. I think I used three coats of this, though I was apparently distracted by trying to see the shimmer and my notes are unclear.

In direct light, the shimmer did show up better, but never matched what I saw in the bottle.

The remaining two colors are both straight up cremes, no shimmer to try and coax out. Central Park is a slightly dusty green, and Soho at Night is a slightly dusty dark purple. Both are opaque in two coats. I used these together, alternating them on my nails then making my first attempt at interlocking dots.

As usual when I try something the first time, all I can see is that I need more practice, but looking at it from a bit of a distance, it doesn't look too bad. I just need to review another tutorial or two and keep trying.

As I've come to expect from Barielle, these are all well behaved polishes with an easy to work with formula, mostly in colors that any nail polish wardrobe could benefit from having. I'm a little iffy on Greenwich Village at Dawn, as that sort of dusty pink can be tricky depending on what color it pulls against one's skintone; on me, it leans toward purple, but I've seen swatches where it pulls very pink or even beige on other people.

The polishes shown in this entry were provided free for review purposes. The content of the entry was not dictated by the provider.

  1. I love the two you used for your jig-saw mani, the others are a bit too dusty!

  2. GYAH! Hate it when shimmer doesn't show up like it does in the bottle. :( Nice colors, though. Haven't seen anything from Barielle in a while.

  3. It's unfortunate that the shimmer doesn't show up the way it does in the bottle, but either way, Greenwich Village at Dawn is still a nice color.
