Dual Country Displays

In an attempt to not let my photo folders on my hard drive overflow, I've got displays today, not even three weeks since the last time. As the title suggests, today's displays come from two countries, as I made a quick trip over to Canada on a recent Saturday to see what I could see.

I'd gotten a couple polishes from the brand Billie in swaps, but my first encounter with them at retail was this display at a Dollar Tree in Canada. Left to right: Comet, Hot Pink, Meteor, Reign, Cosmos, Majestic, Feeling Hot, Solar, Meteor.

Another Dollar Tree I stopped at later in the day had other Billie colors, including this mostly blue tray:

Kmart had a Bonita Salon display called Sweet Ever After with six shades: Glass Slippers, Once Upon a Time, Splendid Love, Sweet Ever After, Fairytale Dreams, and Sweet Cheeks.

Walgreens has the new makeup line Colour Prevails by Nonie Creme. I didn't recognize the name, but some poking around online tells me that Nonie Creme is the former creative director of Butter London. There's an ample selection of nail polishes here in the bottom section, all with a wing-shaped cap which the display calls out as their "patent pending precision painter" and says it "will improve your painting results beyond belief". (There's also similarly packaged eye makeup higher up in the display, which I initially mistook for polish before I noticed the section labels for EYE and NAIL). The nail polishes are $8 each, and the bottles hold .34 fl. oz., so more expensive than Essie per ounce.

Colors on the left hand side—front row: Wardrobe Staple, Wallflower, Sashimi, Frenemy, Privileged, Frock Star, No Regrets, Mr. Right, Blind Date, Reality Star; back row: Troublemaker, Cocky, Clacker, Glossy Posse, Babeland, Shy Guy, Man Hunter Green, Mr. Big, Bridezilla.

Colors on the right hand side—front row: Tattle Tail, Daddy's Girl, Crank Call, All-Nighter, Blue Blood, Boss Lady, Cry Baby, Mannequin Hands CC Creme Basecoat, Lacquer Locker Topcoat, Matte Finish Topcoat; back row: Socially Awkward, Glamazon, Wine O' Clock, Mama's Boy, Mr. Right Now, Date Night, Party Girl, Girls Club, Mr. Wrong.

There's a Cover Girl display with three new summer-appropriate shades of Outlast polish: Mutant, Nuclear, and Fury.

I got to Target long after the mad rush to grab the Lilly Pulitzer collection, so only a few colors of the Essie polish were left in the display. I was a bit sad until I realized, based on the color names printed on the display, that these were existing shades, many of which I already owned. The nine colors are grouped into three trios. Citrus: First Timer, Golden Nuggets, Capri. Jungle: Where's My Chauffeur, Forget Me Knots, Baby's Breath. Beach: Borrowed & Blue, Mezmerized, Pansy. They do have a Lilly Pulitzer hang tag on the bottle but that doesn't make the polish any more special to me.

A different Target I went to later that week had no polishes left at all (though had filled in the slots with random shades), but did have a couple of the Lilly Pulitzer nail file designs left; these had a print on one side and plain color on the other. If I were into scalping stuff on ebay, I would have scooped them up but I'm not so I didn't.

Lately I've seen Essie collections first at mass market stores, but Peach Side Babe for summer showed up at my Ulta before any drugstore on my rounds. Six colors: Private Weekend, Salt Water Happy, Peach Side Babe, Chillato, Sweet Sneaks, and Pret-a-surfer.

Five Below slipped three new Funky Fingers solar polishes into the bins; no signage to indicate if they're a collection: To Infinity and Beyond (pink creme), Space Cadet (seafoam green creme), and Bling Dipper (lilac/holo microglitter). I've since seen reports of two more new solars, though the Five Below website only shows these three.

I saw the GOSH Shades of Grey (Nuances de Gris) display at Shoppers Drug Mart. There are five polishes here, all with Stardust wraps on the caps that promise a "pearly shiny finish". Left to right: Million Stars, Milky Way, Moonlight, Night Sky, Stardust.

I'd never seen fake nails from L'Oreal before I came upon this next display at Shoppers Drug Mart, which has "Canadian Exclusive Nail Art Dress to Impress Nails" from Colour Riche. Front row: Divine Feline (red/black/gold leopard print), Tuxedo Royale (black with white Funky french), All Over Rose (red/pink roses on blue), Nude Muse (ivory with gold mix glitter). Back row: High Tea (pink/white flowers on mint), Silver Lining (turquoise with silver ruffian), Mirror Mirror (white with silver triangles), Nude Muse. There's polish here, too, but I don't believe those are exclusives or even limited edition: Top of the Line (clear), How Romantic, Spice Things Up, Crazy for Chic.

I did find some limited edition L'Oreal polishes at a different Shoppers Drug Mart—eight Top-Coat by Colour Riche glitter toppers. These are in a different bottle than the regular L'Oreal polish; I've never seen them in the States. Left to right: Boho Look, Origami, Coachella, Underwater Kiss, Hello Captain, Woodstock Calling, Under My Spell, Saylor Dream.

I was delighted when I saw the Quo by Orly Art Scene (Beaux-Arts) display in a Shoppers Drug Mart: four glitters! Left to right: Abstract, Graffiti, Contemporary, Pop. I like Orly, and I like glitter, so all of these shades came home with me.

Hearts & Glass is a brand I'd not seen before anywhere until I came across a display in a Sav-On drugstore in metro Detroit. I rarely go to Sav-On because they're not on my normal routes but every once in while I'll make a special trip. This display has thirty slots, two of which were empty when I got there. Since each of the remaining polishes was a different color, I can only imagine there were two more in those empty slots, which the "30 Dazzling Colors" text on the display card seems to confirm. Front row: Sexy Sorbet, Prima Ballerina, Ice Princess, Hungry Heart, Wizard of Ah's. Second row: Midnight Magic, Perfect Kiss, Cloud 9, Plum Fantasy, Cocoa Loco. Third row: Divine Diva, Dare Me, Tangerine Tease, Mint 2 Be, Naughty Narcissist. Fourth row: Rebel Yellow, Daring Duchess, First Love, Stolen Moment, Lapis of Luxury. Fifth row: Calm & Cool, Lucky Clover, Pure Courage, Bronze Goddess, Wisteria Memory. Back row: Leading Lady, Glinda's Glam, Gatsby Glitz. I had to buy a few becuase I don't have anything like this bottle, with the heart molded into the glass.

Sally Beauty has the FingerPaints Tie-Dye Revolution collection, five bright cremes and the core white: Be Hippy, Yellow Out Man, Tie Dye Tangerine, Far Out Fuchsia (note: not fuchsia), Peace Love & Green, Paper Mache.

Five Below slipped three new Funky Fingers solar polishes into the bins; no signage to indicate if they're a collection: To Infinity and Beyond (pink creme), Space Cadet (seafoam green creme), and Bling Dipper (lilac/holo microglitter).

Walgreens had another holiday themed display of Incoco strips, Liberty Belle for 4th of July (apparently it's never too early to start getting ready). Design names are Liberty Belle, Independence Day, All Stars, Fireworks, American Sweetheart, and Brave Brilliance.

In my last dipslay post, I shared a L'Oreal makeup display which included nine new signature red shades plus a core red. At Meijer, I saw a polish-only display with just the nine signature reds.

Since finding some gems at KMart last year, I've made them a more regular stop on my display hunting trips. It was there I found this NYC New York Color Makeup YOur Spring display, which I've yet to spot anywhere else. Unfortunately there was only one polish shade left when I got to it: Volcanic Orange, a light orange creme. The two missing polish colors are Blue Lagoon, a light blue, and Pink Moon, a hot pink.

The only place I've seen OPI Soft Shades 2015 near home is at Sally Beauty, tucked in the nail polish wall as I shared in my last display post. A beauty supply store in Canada had the shelf top display.

There was a run on the OPI Brights display before I got to my Ulta. Shades included in this collection: Down to the Core-al, On Pinks & Needles (a glitter topper, which is a nice inclusion), The Berry Thought of You, I Stop for Red, My Car Has Navy-gation, Hotter Than You Pink, Life Gave Me Lemons, I Sea You Wear OPI, and Can't Hear Myself Pink.

Also at Ulta, much less picked over, was Adrenaline Rush, the summer collection from Orly. Six colors here: Risky Behavior, Fireball, Push the Limit, Thrill Seeker, Be Daring, and On the Edge. I've also seen this in a smaller display at Sally Beauty.

In other Orly sighting news, Sally Beauty had a Cool Blues display with four repromoted shades: Prelude to a Kiss (not blue), Gumdrop (also not blue), Snowcone, and Skinny Dip.

Bed Bath & Beyond had the bridal-themed Revlon Love is On display which includes new shades of ColorStay Gel Envy polishes: Lucky Us, Bet on Love, Gambling Heart, Up in Charms, 2 of a Kind, and Get Lucky.

This month marks the first time I've seen a special Sally Girl collection at Sally Beauty in the new square bottle. Neon Lights has four shades: OMG (in the slot for Cool), XOXO, Crazy, and Cool (in the slot for OMG).

Kmart was the first place I saw the Sally Hansen Complete Salon Manicure Beachside Astrologer display; I've since spotted it at a Walgreens. Apparently these twelve shades are limited edition, but to find that out I had to look online, as the display isn't clear on that point. Starting back left: Cancer Moon, Leo in Rio, Vir-go-go Pink, Lady Libra-ty, Scorpio Sizzle, Plumtarius, Cup o' Capricorn, Age of Aquarius, Pisces of Me, Cherries to My Aries, Tempting Taurus, Gemincello.

As if seemingly (and perhaps literally but I'm too tired to actually go back and count) dozens of shades so far this year weren't enough, Sally Hansen has released seven new colors of Complete Salon Manicure. I saw them in a display at Bed Bath & Beyond. They look spring-like and have flower-related names. Left to right: Mum's the Word, Au Nature-al, Aflorable, In Full Blue-m, What in Carnation, Poof Be-gonia, and Pardon My Garden.

I'd seen photos popping up online of SinfulColors glitter toppers I didn't have yet, so went hunting. I first found a few at a Kmart just sitting on a shelf with other random polishes, no display card anywhere. Finally at a different Kmart on a different day, I saw the proper display for Street Fusion Urban Beats, which has three Graffiti Bomb glitter toppers and some repromoted shades. Left to right: Paste-ered (new), Why Not, Snow Me White, Rich in Heart, Color Tag (new), Mint Apple, GoGo Girl, Writing on the Wall (new). Though this display is fairly full, I'm not sure if this is the actual official lineup or not, as elsewhere I saw these same glitters with Clear Coat and Lavender instead of Rich in Heart and Why Not.

Happy as I was to find the Urban Beat toppers, I was frustrated that the remaining Street Fusion display eluded me. I'd found one of the glitters from it (Fierce Fiesta) in that Spring Fever display at Target that I shared last display post, but search as I might, the shelf top display with it was nowhere to be seen. What I did come across, though, was a Spring Fever display at Meijer that was different than the Target one. There, in the top row, were the glitters I was stalking. The three Graffiti Bomb ones from Urban Beats were there, along with three Piñata Blast ones: Mamasita, Baila Baila, and Fierce Fiesta. The rest of the display was filled with an assortment of core colors and some of the CitrusTwist and BloomBlast toppers from the spring collections.

We're not quite done with SinfulColors yet; like Incoco, they have their 4th of July colors out already. The Having a Blast display contains Clear Coat, Star Blast Off (new, two slots filled with it), Hot Spot, Ruby Ruby, Snow Me White, Out of this World, and Green Ocean (no clue why, and its been in there both places I've seen this display).

The Wet 'n' Wild California Dreamin' sidekick display at Walgreens has five limited edition Megalast colors in it—Re: In Carnation, Sky Me Mine, Green Tease, Bee-u-tiful, and Sun Settle Down.

Ulta finally put out the Zoya Delight display, which I swatched a couple months ago.

That's all for now. Things I am keeping an eye out for for future display posts: the other new solars from Funky Fingers plus this year's Alex's Lemonade charity polishes, Sally Hansen Pearl Crush (thanks for the tip, Sparkled Beauty), SinfulColors proper shelf top display for the Piñata Blast, Studio M summer display (which I hope I didn't miss already; I spotted two random colors on an end—Birthday Suit and Poppy Red—that weren't from core or spring LE so I'm a bit worried).

    1. Danielle, I just popped into Windsor for an afternoon. If the line at the border isn't too backed up, I can get there in under an hour from my house.

  3. I see these nail polishes often aren't too expensive and Orlys caught my eye the most.

    1. A. notcopyacat, your are right; we are fortunate to have a lot of reasonably priced choices. The really expensive stuff is usually sold in places that keep it behind glass and where I've not dared to take photos (like the Chanel counter at Nordstrom).

  5. It is so nice to see these postings of yours! I haven't been out and about much but I have been hearing and seeing photo shots of some of these polishes in one of the FB nail polish groups I am in. I am currently on a no/low-buy and it's difficult to keep myself from getting out to buy, buy, buy more polish I see but I've been pretty good so far. But that doesn't keep me from enjoying the photos here - keeps me in the loop!

  6. Believe it or not, I have never come across a Dollar Tree in Canada, so never tried a Billie. I kinda assumed that Quo collection is a repeat of something Orly had come out with, did get 2 shades but didn't know you want some or I could have send them over

    1. I don't recall any Orly glitters like the Quo, which I didn't know existed until I saw the display (I am never as caught up with blog reading as I'd like).

    1. Lizzy, I'd do it more often if it weren't for the lines to cross the border (though I suppose if I were really serious I'd get on the frequent traveler program where they investigate you and then give you a pass to cross in special lanes).

  8. Oohhh so many pretties! I'm hitting the US in two weeks and so want to see those Sinful Colors toppers. The smaller L'Oreal bottles are standard issue in the UK, we don't get the larger square bottles at all.
