Philly Loves Lacquer Forty Six Duo

Today I have the first two polishes I've ever gotten from the brand Philly Loves Lacquer. I saw their Forty Six Duo come across my Facebook feed and had to have them. The two polishes are "I'm Speaking" and "Will You Just Shut Up, Man?".

I'm Speaking has a white base with small iridescent flakies and some subtle blue/purple shimmer.

I did three thin coats of I'm Speaking, and at some angles there was definite visible nail line, but I was fine with that, as it gave me a subtle French manicure look without me having to do white tips first.

The shimmer was on the muted side; it did show up in direct room light:

Will You Just Shut Up, Man? is a shimmery blue with scattered holo microglitter.

Two coats of Will You Just Shut Up gave full opacity.

I felt like I could almost see a purple shift in this at extreme angles, like on the far curve of my nails when viewed from the side.

In full sun, something interesting happened: the holo sparked, which I expected, but the base color looked quite teal-leaning, which I didn't see coming.

I'm glad I got these as a souvenir of this time in U.S. history. It's a bonus that I find them both very wearable.

Wheel O14: Holographic Shimmers

Before I get to today's Nail Wheel Wednesday episode, which stars holo polishes, some linear, some scattered, some disappointing, let me express my frustration at a discovery I made when I was looking up other holo wheels I've posted over the years. Apparently code changes to Blogger have resulted in some of my old posts here getting changed without me realizing. Many photos in the posts I ran across are now rotated the wrong way, which means the proportions on them are distorted so they look bad and that makes me mad. I don't know that I get a lot of traffic on those old posts (I suppose I could dig into my stats but I haven't done that regularly for so long I'm not sure how far I'd get since they've probably changed that too). So now I have to decide how much work I want to put into fixing screwups I didn't cause (I am 100% sure if I'd had wonky photos back in the day when nail blogs were more of a thing someone would have pointed it out in comments). Grrrr. Anyway, back to the holos. This is a mixed color group of them from Morgan Taylor, China Glaze, and Finger Paints, with a lone Sally Hansen to fill the 20th spot. I decided to group them by brand rather than color because I like the bottle lineups better that way. Maybe when I finish the whole wheel project I can come back around and do holos by color (I did do silver holos that way a few years back, on Wheel S9; those pictures are fine still, maybe because they're from after I made the change to a wider template).

Pretties from Bohemian Glass Nail File

PR samples provided for review

My local forecast for this weekend calls for snow (five to ten inches of it!) but here inside I have pretty flowers to look at thanks to Bohemian Glass Nail File, who sent me a few of their products to try out. These glass files have painted handles decorated with Swarovski crystals and come in a few sizes. The long ones here are a touch over 5 inches and the small travel size is about three and a half inches. (They also have pedicure files available on their website which are longer and wider and just as pretty.)

One of the first things I did was take a close look at the files from the side, to make sure they were the good kind ... not that I thought they weren't, just having been burned by a bad glass file back in the day that tore up my nails, I'm extra careful. I was reassured when I saw that little dip between the handle and the file end that means the texture is ground into the file, not sprayed on.

I've used these for two manicures now and like them a lot; they leave my tips smooth, with no little wisps left over like emery boards or sprayed on glass files can. They don't wear out; after heavy use, I just wash and let dry and they're good as new. Here's a closer look at the designs; if I were more skilled with nail art, I could see copying these for manicures.

The design on the travel file was my favorite; my eyes are hungry for color now that spring is almost here and this design has a nice mix of shades.

The files come with soft black cases to protect the filing surface (and protect other things in my purse or makeup kit from the filing surface).

These files are made in the Czech Republic, which is known for fine glassware, but they ship out of California, which means I had my files only a few days after they were shipped.
