I didn't have quite enough Piggy Polish glitters left to fill out a wheel, so my one Defy & Inspire Vita Fit glitter joined the party.

Recent NOTDs with Essie TLC

I've written before about finding a couple shades of Essie TLC (Treat Love & Color) on clearance and giving them a try to see if this formula can help heal my nails from winter's ravages. Today I've got a few different but similar nails of the day that use TLC Laven-dearly as the base color.

For this first look, I used Salon Sciences Starting Over After Artificials plus two coats of Exxie TLC Laven-dearly topped with one coat of Funky Fingers Unicorn Dust and sealed with Orly Sec 'n' Dry. For some reason, I didn't take any photos of this in my lightbox, so here are two different views out and about in the world.





This next mani is pretty much the same thing, just with a different glitter topper. In this case, it was Piggy Polish Spring-kle that took its place over Laven-dearly and under the Sec 'n' Dry. This one I did get in the lightbox. I see some phantom dirt line (TM Lizzy—I miss your blog, lady!) in these photos; I promise it didn't look that bad in normal life.





Continuing this variation on a theme, I mixed it up by using Instant Artificials with Laven-dearly, then topped with Orly Mirrorball, which is more opaque than either of the glitter toppers I used in the other manis. In the lightbox, it looked like a grey shimmer with pops of holo glitter.





In direct light indoors, some of the holo in the base silver shimmer of Mirrorball started to show.

I do think the Essie TLC was having a good effect on my nails, but since I don't always want a shimmery pastel base, I haven't been using it consistently. I did recently get a bottle of the clear TLC so hope to get that incorporated into my routine soon.

Wheel X9: Glow in the Dark Polishes

Today for Nail Wheel Wednesday, I have a bunch of glow in the dark polishes, mostly from Halloween collections.

Here's the wheel in the dark. I was surpried that 9 California Girls, a pink polish, was the only one that glowed orange; I thought 3 Easy Come Easy Glow, the orange one, would as well. I'm not sure what the deal is with 18 Deja Boo; no matter how much light I hit it with, it never did glow much at all.

Piggy Polish Vincent's Stars

When I saw the Piggy Polish displays at Rite Aid (as shared in my most recent display post), I bought the one color I was most intrigued by, a blue shimmer called Vincent's Stars. It wasn't easy to tell in the fluorescent lighting of the store, but the shimmer looked like it might be holographic. In better light at home, I did indeed see hints of a rainbow in the bottle.



On my nails, I saw no holo, at least not in the indirect light of my lightbox. The polish was well behaved; my swatch is 2 coats over regular base coat (I think I used OPI in this case). Even without topcoat, it's plenty shiny. The rhinestone star ring that came with it is a bonus; maybe I should try wearing it when sandal weather finally arrives, though I've never gone for toe rings before.





I thought maybe the holo would show in more direct light, so I pulled my hand out of the lightbox and held it at various angles. Nope, not really any holo evident. Maybe a few tiny points of color showing, but maybe that's wishful thinking on my part.





Okay, fine, let's go out in the sun. Surely if there's holo to see, it'll show up there. Turns out the only rainbows I saw in the sun were in the bottle. On my nails, no matter how I turned them this way and that, I saw only the very tiniest hints of color sparking off the shimmer, and that only on some nails at some angles.





The holo is weak in this one, for sure. I can forgive that, since the display wasn't advertising it as holo, and it didn't have a premium price tag compared to other Piggy Polish colors. It's just a bit disappointing since I thought I might have found a gem in the drugstore with this one. I do like the color, regardless, so I'm not kicking it out of my stash.
