The other eight bottles, similarly wrapped in newspaper, were fine, so I took Lucy at her word and went ahead and swatched them on a nail wheel. (Just her luck that I didn't have any of these in my stash already so was very curious about them.) Starting with the bright pink and moving clockwise (do people still know what direction that is?), there's Chunky Holo Candy, Chunky Holo Poppy, Chunky Holo Fuchsia, Chunky Holo Scarlet, Chunky Holo Clover, Chunky Holo Teal, Chunky Holo Bluebell, and Chunky Holo Black, followed by each of the colors in the same order layered over black, followed by Poppy over silver (OPI Her Royal Shine-ness) and Teal over silver, and finally Fuchsia over bright pink (Borghese Rapido Maraschino) and Black over bright pink.
Most of the colors are sheer; on the first eight nail tips, I used three coats of all but Scarlet, which was two. Over the black, I used one coat of the Kleancolors. Over silver, three coats of Poppy and two coats of Teal. Over pink, one coat of Fuchsia and two of Black.
I was surprised to see how similar most of the colors looked over black; I guess they use the same glitter in all but Scarlet and Black (obviously that was different—it's actually chunky).
Over silver the reddish face of the glitter popped most, but the green glowed around the edges.
Unlike the silver, the bright pink was powerful enough on its that the Kleancolors only added a hint of their own base color to the combination.
None of these have topcoat, so you can see for glitters they're not bumpy at all (and they are glitters, not holos, as you've no doubt figured out by now).
I probably should have stopped there, since these weren't my polishes, after all, but I just couldn't resist playing a bit more. I mean, look here at Chunky Holo Black—how was I supposed to just pack up that bottle without seeing it on my nails? I am not that strong.
I decided OPI Jade Is the New Black would make a good base, so put on two coats of that, followed by two of Chunky Holo Black. Oh my, that sealed it—I am going to need to buy my own bottle of this Kleancolor. The combination reminded me of the glorious fall colors we're seeing on the trees around here now.
I had to take this outside to enjoy it there, too. I didn't have full sun that day, but it glowed nicely under the partly cloudy conditions, too, which is good, since I am most often not in full sun.
So yes, I definitely need to buy the Black. I'm thinking one of the others, too, probably Bluebell since it's my favorite base color of that group. If I didn't already have a lot of red glitters, I'd probably get Scarlet, too, but I do so I won't.
Thanks, Lucy for letting me try your pretties!
Reminder: there are just a few more days to enter my Halloween Harvest Giveaway.
What a great fall color! Green and orange and black- awesome!
ReplyDeletetrue fall mani, i love it :-D
ReplyDeletei don't like kleancolor anymore although they look fabulous - it takes an eternity to dry :-p
Thanks for swatching these, I would've never guessed that a) they mostly all used the same glitters and b) that black is so amazing!
ReplyDeleteI love the black on your nails. The colors are gorgeous and it looks like a much more complicated nail process than just a few coats of glitter.
ReplyDeleteThat is great! I think I need that one!
ReplyDeleteChunky Holo Black is insanely gorgeous! The others I could pass on but wow! That's beautiful.
ReplyDeleteI'm surprised you haven't owned these already :) Yeah, most of these have the red glitters, I wish they were more unique
ReplyDeleteBook-marking this! Thanks!

ReplyDeleteChunky holo is my favorite. I picked up an extra bottle in the neighborhood beauty supply. at least I dont have to order it on line any more LOL!
ReplyDeleteI seriously love what you have on your nails! But all of the glitters are gorgeous!
ReplyDeletethey all look so pretty, that's so nice of her to let you swatch them, I have a few of these KC I need to try still.
ReplyDeleteI just love the Kleancolor glitter polishes! I have most of them, but in my experience, they do not apply well nor dry fast!
ReplyDeleteI love the effect over the silver.Who knew it could look that nice!
ReplyDeleteChunky Holo Black is very pretty. I just wish it would show some blue on the nail like it does in the bottle.
ReplyDeleteI like the chunky holo over the green :) very unique
ReplyDeleteLook at you getting all artsy fartsy in your pics! Looks so nice against the brick!
ReplyDeleteWow look all these polishes. They are so beautiful . I also love the mani you chose .
ReplyDeleteI got these ones in a set. Its very true on black they all look similar has the red and green are the most pronounced glitter. My favourite is the black and the purple.
ReplyDeleteNormally I wear them with a similar colour as a base. The black I wear as topcoat with any colour:)
Wow these all look fab! I'm really tempted to try out some but have no access to any over here =(
ReplyDeleteLove your mani, the glitter looks great over the green!
Oh these are cool! I hope I can get to try Kleancolor one of these days... the black looks especially awesome!
ReplyDeleteToo bad about the casualty. I'm keen to know what you think about the smell of KCs.
ReplyDeleteThe holo black looks amazing! I picked up the Scarlet one on a blog sale and am completely underwhelmed by it:(
ReplyDeleteThanks, everyone!
ReplyDeleteHalifax, I'm sort of surprised, too; I'm sure I would own them if they'd put them in my path in stores.
Fingers, I am starting to embrace my inner artiste, it's true!
purplegreenpanda, oh, they stink--I guess I didn't think to mention that since they're so notorious for that. In this case, with the broken one in the box, I could smell them before I unpacked them. :)
OMG.. I need to place a second beautyjoint order asap!!! I need Fuchsia and teal!
