Magnetique Magnetic Nail Polish from Blue Cross

In my end of May display post, I shared the Magnetique display which I saw at Rite Aid.

In an awesome display of self-control, I've only bought two of these, the green and the purple (they don't have names, at least not ones that show up on the display or bottles). I would have bought three if I'd found the elusive chevron magnet—the display shows three magnet designs but I've been to five or six Rite Aids in the last few weeks and have yet to find a chevron. If I do find one, I'll be able to put it on whatever color I like, as these have removable outer caps with the magnet on them and they're not shrink wrapped or taped on in the store.

The directions are on a hangtag on each bottle.

Because I like to experiment, I didn't follow the directions for all my nails; instead of doing one nail at a time, for some I put on a first coat and let it dry a bit before adding a second and applying the magnet. My advice based on this: follow the directions. The design showed up much stronger on the nails where I did two coats with no pause in between.

The magnet is a decent size, but it doesn't have a lip so it's a little harder to place it at a consistent distance from each nail and get it lined up in the same place every time. You can see my stars wandered from nail to nail, but it is possible to make a clear strong design with this polish and magnet combination (remember, follow the directions about working one nail at a time).

The purple one I got has the stripe magnet. By this time, I realized I could use the arrow printed on the cap to align the magnet, so I played with different orientations. The contrast with this shade wasn't as great as with the green. Or maybe I just didn't hold the magnet in place as long; I try to count in my head but it's easy to get distracted.

When I was doing the green, I noticed that it looked like it could have benefitted from a top coat, as the magnet seemed to pull some particles up more than others. For the purple, I added top coat to all but my index finger so I could see how much difference it made.

At $4.99 these are a nice alternative to the more expensive magnetics. Maybe the finish isn't quite as nice on some of the colors as the Sally Hansen or the Orly, but for one-third to one-half the price, I think that's a fair trade off.

  1. Great price most magnetics are at least $8.00 or more :)

  2. That green is cool! I can see why you couldn't pass it up!

At $4.99, that's a pretty good deal for magnetics. I couldn't believe how expensive the Orly's were!

  3. Price - quality seems nice, really! I found my happiness in Flormar and Kiko, which are around 5 euros each. Given the exchange rate... it wouldn't be a bargain in the US I guess!

  4. Thanks for sharing a good deal! The green looks great, but I agree that the purple one doesn't offer enough contrast between the base color and the design.

  5. The purple is really nice, and it looks like their magnets are reasonably OK.

  10. I got 3 of these, but not in either of the colors you did. I'm still searching for that elusive chevron magnet, too! Maybe its a trick, lol. I have been to 3 rite aids with no luck.
