OPI Vintage Minnie Mouse

Being a fan of Disney, I was quite interested to hear earlier this year that OPI was going to be doing a Minnie Mouse collection for summer. Today I'm happy to say that I've got all four of the polishes to share with you. Somewhat surprising to me, they're mostly pink, which is not a color I particularly associate with Minnie, especially Vintage Minnie Mouse as the collection is named. I think black and white and red with an accent of yellow. However, a Google image search turns up plenty of views of Minnie in pink, so it's not like she never wears that color.

Nothin' Mousie 'bout It has light pink heart glitter in a sheer shimmery pink base. Having had trouble with similar glitters before, I turned this upside down and let it sit for several minutes in hopes of getting the hearts to come out of the bottle more easily, but that didn't seem to help; I had to fish for them and dab them on my nails. Here's what it looks like on its own with approximately two coats (it's hard to know how to count with all the fishing and dabbing) plus a topcoat to smooth out the hearts a bit. The shimmery base in this is quite pretty, with pops of purple and orange and gold flashing amongst all the pink.

If You Moust You Moust is a bright medium pink creme. I used three coats for full coverage.

Of course I had to try layering the hearts on top of the creme; I dabbed on two coats of Nothin' Mousie 'bout It then added topcoat.

I'm All Ears is a juicy pink flecked shimmer. It's slightly sheer; at three coats I still had a hint of visible nail line. The shimmer is mostly a lighter pink but there are also pops of brighter pink and purple.

Was there layering to be done on top of I'm All Ears? Yes, there was. Another two dabbed coats of Nothin' Mousie 'bout It plus topcoat led quite a pleasing result as the shimmer built up:

The Color of Minnie is a red shimmer. This was almost a two-coater but I went ahead and did three. The shimmer is on the subtle side; it will show up in normal room light, but it's nowhere near as blingy as I'm All Ears.

Instead of just adding hearts to all my nails on top of The Color of Minnie, I made an effort to just get the shimmer froom Nothin' Mousie 'bout It on all but an accent nail, then added funky French tips with If You Moust You Moust before finishing with a top coat.

I was intrigued by the un-hearted look of Nothin' Mousie, so tried a hot pink tips (If You Moust with I'm All Ears on Top, because I wasn't sure I'm All Ears would be opaque enough for tips on its own) topped with just the shimmer part of Nothin' Mousie.

That shimmer is the key to what makes Nothin' Mousie different from the other OPI heart glitter in my stash, Nicole by OPI Love Your Life. The heart look the same in both, but the shimmer in Nothin' Mousie is of the micro flakie variety rather than the mini glitter in Love Your Life.

Here they are on top of If You Moust; the Nicole on top, the OPI on the bottom.

Finally, because when I think of Minnie, I think of the big polka dots on her dress, I had to get out my dotting tool. I did a base of two coats of If You Moust (since I knew I'd be mostly covering it up, I didn't go to three), added a quick dry top coat to minimize denting from the dotting tool, then made big dots with The Color of Minnie before adding topcoat. I think my ring finger turned out the best.

I'd love to see other Disney character collections from OPI. Can you imagine the glorious gloomy colors they could do for Eeyore? The delicate glitters for Tinkerbell? There are so many possibilities.

  3. OMG an Eeyore or Tinkerbell collection would be awesome! I would love to see those.

I like the heart polish but was disappointed in all the pink in this collection. I will probably pass on the rest.

  15. I'm in for I'm all Ears :) Your swatches were gorgeous! But to be honest, I'm not as enthusiastic for this collection as I could be, maybe it's due to the fact that there are mostly pinks and reds which I don't crave for... And the glitter + hearts top coat, eish.
