Wheel B15: Orange-Leaning Red Cremes

Nail Wheel Wednesday can be so unreliable. Shows up for a while then takes a week off for no good reason. There's no shortage of polish, that's for sure. There is a shortage of mental energy to sort those polishes, though, and a shortage of focus to get the wheels painted and the photos sorted and the posts written. Okay, perhaps it's me who's unreliable. Definitely it's me. As Eleanor says, "pobody's nerfect".

Wheel W14: Orange Red Cremes

Okay, so this wasn't my best summer for blogging. My most recent absence was due to a long cross country road trip that seemed like a better idea when we planned it than when the time came to do it, thanks to the Delta variant running rampant through many states. Still, we went, adjusting our plans to see fewer people and do fewer things (long restaurant meals catching up with friends were out, long meals outside with vaccinated friends getting bit up by mosquitos in Michigan were in). Given how poorly Idaho is doing with COVID-19, it's quite possible we were safer on the road than at home, at least when we were in states with fewer Trump cultists in them by volume. I didn't stop in as many stores as I would have pre-pandemic, but will have a display post up later this month with polishes I did see. I'm back today with a wheel I painted before I left, full of orange cremes that mostly lean red (or maybe red cremes that lean orange? it's hard to say sometimes). A few have non-shiny finishes, but that's okay; if I tried to be that picky about matching finishes on wheels, I'd never complete this project. Even trying to not be too picky, I sometimes wonder if I will ever get through all the cremes I still need to get on wheels (much less the shimmers and glitters and other finishes). I know it would go faster if I'd go on a no buy, but that's super hard for me.

Wheel F14: Reddish Orange Cremes

Pretty much whenever I paint a creme nail wheel, like this one with not quite orange not quite red shades, I think "if I never buy another creme polish, I'll be fine". Then I see a new collection or a set I like, and boom, I've bought more cremes. This is how my stash got to be overflowing 11 Helmers by quite a bit. Not sure what I'm going to do about it. I am not going to be able to enter my next stage of life with thousands of polishes, I'm pretty sure.

Warm Hues from Bee's Knees

Back in August, I shared some water marbles I did with shades from Bee's Knees Lacquer Acotar Agaaaiiiiin collection. Today I've got some swatches of the warm tones from there plus a bonus polish that didn't make it into the water marble post. First up, a quartet of compatible shimmers: A Dreamer Born Into the Court of Nightmares (light yellow), When I Kill I Do It Slow (yellow orange), Illyrian Baby (light orange; this is the one that didn't make the marble post), and Truth Is Your Curse (red orange).

 

I used three coats of each for a juicy Skittles look. There's a tiny bit of nail line peeking through with some of the shade at certain angles, but I thought that was fine.

 

 

 

I then used these same shades for a funky French, first putting down a skintone creme base then adding black creme tips before slicking on the shimmers. The black tips let the shift and flash show up more. For some reason, I did them in a slightly different order, so below from top to bottom it's A Dreamer Born Into the Court of Nightmares, Illyrian Baby, When I Kill I Do It Slow, and Truth Is Your Curse.

 

 

 

Then it was time for Only You Can Decide What Breaks You to take a turn. This is a dusty rose shimmer with a gold/green shift.

 

Before I swatched this one, I added some base colors. I left my index finger bare. On my middle, it was Essie Talk Sweet to Me. On my ring, Girly Bits Don't Paddle Break a Nail. My pinky got black.

 

Then I added Only You Can Decide What Breaks You to give me an ombre look: three coats on my index finger, then two coats over each of the creme base colors. All my digits got clear topcoat.

 

The shift in Only You Can Decide What Breaks You really showed on all my nails, though of course the black brought it out the most.

 

 

In direct light, all the nails looked nice, but the nail with the black base was fascinating.

 

And look what happened in filtered sunlight—so beautiful:

 

I have to make a concious effort to avoid the Bee's Knees website sometimes, as I just know there are so many tempting things there. They do a really good job with shifty shimmers like these, and magnetics too, and I need to play with the ones I've got already before I buy a ton more. I successfully avoided the September launch but am not sure I'll be able to do the same with October. We shall see.
