Recent NOTD: Sally Hansen Show Your Stripes

For my Thanksgiving week nails, I went with Sally Hansen strips as I am wont to do when I'm traveling. I chose the black and silver Show Your Stripes pattern, which was a one of the limited edition patterns for Summer 2011.

My nails are still short enough that I could do my whole mani with only half the strips in the package. I'm thinking of just keeping them this length even if I manage to stop damaging a nail or two every week by doing something dumb (usually reaching for something without paying attention and jamming a tip into a hard surface); when I look at photos from my long ovals from early October, they look weird to me, like those aren't my hands or something. I don't know; maybe I'll get used to it again as they grow out.

I used a coat of Orly Nail Defense under these this time because my nails were feeling like they needed it. On day six, I noticed a couple of the strips starting to lift at the base of my nail. I don't know that the Nail Defense was to blame, though I haven't used it as an undercoat before, just Orly Nail Envy, but I'm wondering. The Nail Defense was from my last remaining old formula bottle, which has some old school chemicals in it that might not play nicely with the strips, which are 3-Free. On the other hand, if they didn't play nicely, why would that only show up on day six? Maybe it was a side effect of knitting; I started a pair of socks late that week. I don't remember doing a lot of knitting with these strips on before, so maybe the yarn is rubbing against the base edges and lifting them. In any case, they did last through the holiday weekend, which was my main goal.

  1. It is a pretty design! I think the lifting is just wear. I agree, if it had do to the base coat it would not have lasted 6 days.

  2. Sounds like you and I both need big bubble-wrap gloves to keep from smacking nails on everything. :) I look at my old nails and it seems foreign, too. But they'll grow eventually. Yours look good no matter what. I love these strip designs but I wish they were wider so I could use them! :(

  3. I got that one too and I loved it! Looks great on you! I usually get lifting at the base too when I wear these.

  4. I like this pattern but I still dislike these strips. They were REALLY hard to remove, I ended up having to pick/scratch them off. Bleh.

  6. Such a unique print, but I am not big on the whole nail decals since I like to change my nails SO often..

  7. Nice design, I am really like the SH strips! I know what you mean about not noticing your own nails. I look back at some of my old pics where my nails are longer and think how I didn't notice it or that they didn't bother me. I like mine rather short nowadays.

  8. I really like this pattern. I would actually wear these! And I didn't realize knitting was such a contact sport that it ruins nail polish! I can just picture a new reality TV show- dangerous knitting! Sorry not as funny as I normally am! Am off my game!

  9. I love these =) I haven't tried these yet, as I'm afraid I will totally botch the application. I have quite a few boxes of them though, haha. Perhaps I will try them soon!
