In a comment on my Halloween displays entry, Karina asked whether the glow in the dark polishes were just topcoats, and I thought rather than burying my answer in a comment, I'd show one of the pumpkins in action. I picked the greenish one, and put four thin coats on my index finger, three on my middle, two on my ring, and one on my pinky. As you see in the pic below, these are rather sheer.
When I took the multi-coat mani into the dark, the nails with the fewest coats glowed the least.
I then really slopped on the polish, building all my nails up to about six or seven coats (I know—that's a lot, but for a special occasion, I'll do it).
Taking that into the dark, I got much better glowing. If I'd had the patience to sit and really charge them up under the light, I probably would have had even better results.
If seeing this changes your mind about how many chances to put in for these in my 500 Followers Contest, just fill out the form again. (They come in with timestamps so I can grab the most recent entry for a given person.)

ReplyDeleteJust being random, because I just thought about it: if you have the collection on the top of your cabinet, when it gets dark they'll start glowing! :o I just remembered about some glow in the dark toys I used to have on my room's cabinet, and at night they were just so fun to watch! *lol*

ReplyDeleteVery cute! I would definitely wear them over a base color, though.
ReplyDeleteThese polishes are so cute! I bought a couple, too... the pink one and the orange one. I also had to slather on like 8 coats to get an IN YO FACE glow, but it was worth it!

ReplyDeleteSorry, Karen,my comment above was for "Light pink cremes" ;)
ReplyDeleteThose pumpkin polishes must be fun :)
This is just plain awesome. Thanks for doing it. I really wish I could find these lacquers.
ReplyDeleteThanks, everyone!
ReplyDeleteKarina, good idea to display the bottles; the polish definitely glows longer in the bottle than on the nail.
Serena, the one time I layered one of these over another color, I didn't use enough coats to get the glow. It should be possible, but the base color might get a bit obscured by the time you had enough coats of the glitter to get a good glow effect going.
migdall, no problem, I used my mighty admin powers to make the wayward comment go away. :)
oh wow, you really need to pack these on
ReplyDelete6 or 7 coats? whoa, that is a lot of work! However, again I am reminded of cupcake frosting... am I weird... very cute!!
ReplyDeleteI am so happy I have this now Karen. *dances*
ReplyDeleteAlso, what an amazing effort to do the experiment! thanks for this!
Yay for them getting there safely!
