I'm back from vacation but still wearing the polish I put on before I left, so this will be an actual Nails of the Day post for a change. This trip was in celebration of mine and Mr. Karen's 24th wedding anniversary, and we decided to go to the theme parks in Orlando. On our honeymoon lo so many years ago, we'd spent time in Disneyland and Knott's Berry Farm, so going to Walt Disney World and the Universal parks seemed fitting. I didn't want to spend time fussing with my nails on the trip since the point was to be together as a couple, and Mr. Karen is not particularly interested in nail polish. I considered trying Shellac, but never got around to making an appointment, so very late the night before we left, I put on OPI Mad as a Hatter, since I figured a dense multi-colored glitter like that would be easy to touch up, plus it pleased me that we were going to Disney and Mad as a Hatter is from a collection inspired by a Disney film. I didn't take any formal lightbox photos of this polish; instead, I snapped candid shots as I went along.
Here it is just after I applied it late Friday/early Saturday, in the dim indoor light that prevails at my house in the middle of the night:
On the plane on the way down to Florida Saturday afternoon (the 16th):
Under the colored lights in one of the ride queues (I think this was Dr. Doom's Fear Fall) on the 17th:
At Walt Disney World, on Main Street in the Magic Kingdom waiting for the parade to start on the 18th:
At the EPCOT Food & Wine Festival on the 20th, with my gift card wrist band so I can pay faster and get on with the eating and drinking. At this point, the effects of too much sun and public bathroom soap are starting to show on my hands, but the polish is still holding up nicely:
Holding a bottle of pumpkin juice in the Wizarding World of Harry Potter at Islands of Adventure on the 21st.
In the lobby of Disney's Polynesian Resort before dinner on the 23rd. It's our favorite Orlando hotel, but we stayed elsewhere this trip, because while we do love it, it's hella expensive. I really need a "glitter fill" by now but was having too much fun doing other things to do a touchup, and since I hadn't gotten any chips, I didn't need to dig the polish out of the protective wrapping I'd put it in for travel.
I did finally get a chip yesterday, but it's along the side and barely noticeable so I haven't bothered to fix it yet. If we'd gotten home earlier last night I might have taken it off and put a new color on, but now I'm thinking I might keep itand try a crackle polish over it, inspired by jaljen.
Oh, and so Universal wouldn't feel slighted, I wore OPI Funky Dunkey on my toes. It survived through water rides that got us completely soaked and so much more walking than I usually do.
I've got a lot of catching up at work to do so might not be posting quite as frequently as usual this week, though I do have the two NOTD before Mad as a Hatter to post and some comparisons I did before we left so even if I don't get time to swatch this week I can still write entries.
sounded like so much fun Hatter Donkey and u went through :D :D
ReplyDeleteThe glitter is a great idea! I'm going on vacation for a week and a half in November and I've been trying to decide what I am going to wear while I'm away (I won't have time to repaint). I was originally going to go bare, but then I wore Deborah Lippmann Razzle Dazzle and it stained my fingers raspberry. Ah well.
ReplyDeletelove all the candid nail pictures lol! Glad you had a good trip, what a fun way to celebrate your anniversary!
ReplyDeletewow, congrats on your anniversary :D
ReplyDeleteI love that MAAH mani, one of my big lemmings, and for a change I also love seeing it outside of usual setting, this way we get to see it 'in action' so to speak ;)
Such a great idea to take pictures of your nails throughout your trip, and Happy Anniversary! Hope the trip was heaps of fun!
ReplyDeletelove Mad as a Hatter! and congrats on your anniversary!! :)
ReplyDeleteOh, I love the theme parks! I´ve been to Orlando 3 times. Sparkly glitter like MAAH is a great choice to wear.
ReplyDeleteAnd congratulations on your anniversary!
Fabulous!!!
ReplyDeleteYou must have been in diapers when you were married!!!
:D
Congratulations!!!
Looks like a great trip! So jealous of the pumpkin juice!!! LOL
ReplyDeleteGreat polish choice! I didn't take into consideration chipping when I went to Islands of Adventure for my birthday a few weeks ago. I wore Space Cadet and by the end of the day half my nails had chipped and one broke(I have clumsy fingers).
ReplyDeleteCongrats on 24 years too!
I like the idea that you took pics of your nails during your trip. It seems like they had a pretty good time. :P
ReplyDeleteCongrats on your anniversary! :)
i love this polish !!
ReplyDeleteWell, first of all, congrats on your anniversary. Second of all, SOOOO jealous of your trip! DisneyWorld is my spiritual home, I swear.
ReplyDeleteWow, congrats to you and Mr. Karen on 24 years of marriage! That's a long time, and it's awesome that you guys can still go away together and have what looks like a wonderful time.
ReplyDeleteAlso, do you mind sharing what basecoat topcoat combo you used for this mani? I've worn MaaH once since buying it, and it chipped off the very next day. I haven't used it since for fear of wasting it. ;_;
But yours wore amazingly well, especially since you traveled and stuff. Please share the secret? I will be grateful forever.
Congrats on your anniversary. I love mad as a hatter. I so want this polish
ReplyDeleteOoooh, Mad as a Hatter, I wish it hadn't been a limited edition, it looks lovely as ever! Congrats on your anniversary!
ReplyDeleteCongrats on your anni! Looks like you had a fabulous time and gave MAAH a run for it's money. Your making me want to pull my bottle out! :)
ReplyDeleteHappy anniversary!
ReplyDeleteI like how you took pictures throughout your trip, definitely the best polish to survive the week! :D
I'm very jealous of your trip I hope you had a wonderful time! :D
MAAH is gorgeous! You make me wanna wear it again and I will, very soon! :)
ReplyDeleteAnd Happy aniversary! I'm glad you had so much fun!
Wow! It's gorgeous! I want it (^_^)
ReplyDeleteSounds like fun trip! I went to Disney land in Orlando when I was 9... ahhh I dream of going again!
ReplyDeleteI love how you took pics throughout your trip! Fun stuff!
Oh and congrats on your anniversary too! 24 years is amazing!
ReplyDeleteThe perfect shade for going to Disney! :)
ReplyDeleteThanks, everyone! It was a fun trip, and we had great weather--not a drop of rain and it was warm enough to not need jackets outside even very late at night.
ReplyDeleteChaosButterfly, I used one coat of SH Nail Quencher (wrapped my tips with this coat) and then put one coat of Salon Sciences Instant Artificials under the MAAH, topping with one coat of SH Insta Dri Anti Chip top coat. Normally when I wear a polish more than a few days, I refresh with more of the SH top coat, but with MAAH being so shiny on its own (and being on vacation) I didn't with this mani. I hope you can find a combination that works for you, since this is a great glitter.
I always use a primer before foundation. Try it (^_^)
ReplyDeleteWhile this polish is so much fun, I'm more interested in the fact that you went to the Wizarding World! I cannot begin to describe how unbelievably jealous I am.
ReplyDeleteCongrats on your anniversary! Sounds like you had a LOT of fun!
Wow, that's some serious mani longevity!
ReplyDeleteI wish I would have snagged this before ebay suckers started charging way too much for it! I love it!
ReplyDeleteThis reminds me of those traveling garden gnome pictures. Here are my nails riding Space Mountain, here they are getting spooked in the Haunted Mansion... lol
ReplyDeleteGlad you had a fun time for your anniversary, Congrats!
congrats on anniversary!!
ReplyDeleteI am curious - did the pumpkin juice taste pumpkin like??
It makes me a touch sad though... I missed out on this. And who said glitters don't wear well! HA. Looks stunning.
BV
BV, the pumpkin juice tasted like thick apple juice with pumpkin pie spices in it. Not bad, but not nearly as good as the frozen butterbeer in my opinion.
ReplyDeleteOh, the description of the pumpkin juice is not quite taking me there... but the bottle is UBER cute!! I hope I get to go there one day! I just don't like kids/young people though. Hehehehe
ReplyDeleteThanks for satisfying my curiousity...
